Union Home Minister Amit Shah has unveiled the Centre's vision of a Smart Border, a technology-driven security framework aimed at making India infiltration-free through an integrated four-pronged security grid. The model brings together border guarding forces, state and district administrations, Central government agencies and local citizens to strengthen surveillance, intelligence sharing and coordination.Addressing the Land Border Districts' Superintendents of Police Conference-2026, Shah said the government is shifting from a reactive to a proactive border management system. The initiative focuses on tackling illegal infiltration, proxy war, radicalisation, narcotics trafficking, smuggling, drone threats, cybercrime and organised crime. The Centre also highlighted the ₹31,000-crore India-Myanmar border fencing project, the Demography Mission and the Vibrant Villages Programme as key components of the broader border security strategy.
