A political controversy erupted in Kolkata after an egg was thrown at TMC MLA Kunal Ghosh while he was leaving the residence of West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee. TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee accused BJP supporters of carrying out the attack and alleged that police personnel present at the scene failed to act. Banerjee further claimed that the incident was part of an attempt to intimidate opposition leaders and blamed BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari for encouraging such political hostility. The incident has triggered a fresh war of words between the TMC and BJP in West Bengal.
