Transforming what it means to be state educated in Britain.

Over ons

The 93% Club is transforming what it means to be state educated in Britain. What does this mean? We’re taking the centuries-old concept of exclusive and elusive old boys' networks and creating the alternative: the UK’s least exclusive members’ club, a community proud of its educational background and built on the principle that state-educated people should have the same unrestricted access to the networks of support, knowledge and influence that have historically benefitted their privately-educated peers.

The event that got me my first job is back and welcoming more students than ever before - The Social Mobility Factory. When I was a student, I genuinely believed the formula was simple: if I work hard, I'll get good grades and land a good job. I had no idea about how important everything around the academics is. Joining The 93% Club really opened my eyes to how much that other stuff actually matters. The most tangible support I ever got from the Club was at the very first Social Mobility Factory. I got a mock interview and a professional gave me honest feedback, a structure to follow that made sense and wasn't just 4 letters (STAR) on a computer screen. So I put all of that into practice a couple of months later, at the first interview I did on my hunt for a job, and I was successful. In fact, the hiring manager commented on how well I'd interviewed. That one half hour changed the trajectory of my career. That personal experience is just one of the reasons why I've spent the last five years building the student community at The 93% Club and events like this. I've seen first-hand how transformative the Social Mobility Factory is for others too. I'm talking hundreds of individual stories, and the data that backs them. In 2025, 91% of students left feeling more ready to compete in the job market than when they arrived. And it matters more than ever with the state of the job market. State-educated students start from behind because 92% of us don't have an alumni network they can call on for CV advice, interview prep, or the insider knowledge that actually gets you hired. The Social Mobility Factory opens the gates to access all of that. Here's what the day is really about: ❤️ Students - you walk out with the complete careers toolkit to compete during milkround. And it costs you nothing. Not just free tickets - we cover your travel to London, so the opportunity isn't priced out of reach. I cannot wait to welcome you through the gates again this year and hear your stories. Link in the bio to apply. ❤️ Professionals - you're welcome too. Come and be the person hosting the mock interview or CV review that makes all the difference. I'm living proof of what your support can do. Link in the bio to apply. ❤️ Businesses - if you think your company could get involved, meet talented state-educated students, and spend a day giving back, please drop Joe Mackley a message. The gates are re-opening for 2026 - new home, bigger impact. This year there's room for more delegates, but still not unlimited. P.S. Got a state-educated mate who'd benefit? Tag them in the comments. 👇

The factory gates are re-opening, and this year we're going big. Introducing: The Social Mobility Factory 2026. Tobacco Dock, London, 25 September. Two years ago, my first experience of The 93% Club was attending the Social Mobility Factory as a prospective new team member and volunteer. Firstly, what a baptism of fire - and secondly... what a baptism of fire. The Social Mobility Factory is much more than a careers fair. The concept: give state-educated students the ultimate careers toolkit, free of cost, in a single day. Think free LinkedIn headshots, CV reviews, interview practice, conversations with employers, and an amazing line-up of panellists and keynote speakers - all while spending the day with your state-educated mates from around the UK. But this isn't just a day for students. Whether you're a graduate, a senior professional or an early careers leader, there's something for everyone. Mentor, volunteer, build new connections, or just be a friendly face. And I can guarantee that whoever walks through that door on 25 September will come away with something valuable. Applications are open now, and with 2,000+ delegates already getting ready to come through the door, don't miss your chance to get involved. 👉 Students, graduates, professionals - the links to apply are in the comments. 👉 Employers - get in touch with Joe Mackley for more info! It’s the Friday after a WILD week in the Sophie Pender diaries, so let’s do something positive and connect someone who needs help! Each week, I’m letting someone borrow my network. I take requests from people who are stuck and need support, and I share them here for you guys. — 👉🏻 last week, I connected a 2023 grad who was at a crossroads. 👈🏻 this week, I’m trying to connect someone who is an aspiring HR professional. They’ve just completed their MSc in Global Human Resource Managament but are struggling to make the move into a full time role. They need someone to look at their CV, give them advice, and point them in the right direction. Please can you help or connect me with someone who can? — So, how does this work? 👉 If you're in a position to help or connect to someone who can, fill out the “Offer Support” form or tag someone below. If you’re a strong match, I’ll connect you directly by email. Want to borrow my network? 👉 If you need help then please fill out the “Request Support” form in the comments below. I will pick a request to share each Friday on my LinkedIn page. If I can’t feature your request on LinkedIn because of capacity, it won’t get lost. If clear and specific, I’ll spotlight it inside The 93% Club Professionals platform, connecting you directly with our 3,000+ state-educated professionals across the UK. #BorrowMyNetwork — Hi, I’m Sophie - founder of The 93% Club. Every Friday, I'm letting someone borrow my network. I’m doing this because I believe that everyone should be able to access a helpful network, regardless of the school they went to, the family they’re from, or their economic situation. At The 93% Club we do this all year round. We’re a nationwide membership with an online platform where members can request support from the network 24/7 365 days a year, with a response rate of 90-95%. If our network can’t help you, we’ll find someone who can. If you want support, or want to give support, please fill in the relevant form in the comments below. If you can't help but know someone who can, please tag them or repost so they see this.

I have a really cool job. Working in events, no two days are ever the same. Since taking the lead on our events at The 93% Club this year, I've delivered an awards ceremony at the Houses of Parliament, organised puppy yoga for International Women's Day, helped bring our immersive 10th birthday celebration to life and launched an entirely new Culture Club programme for our members. It's varied, fast-paced and a lot of fun. One thing I've learnt is that it's easy to get caught up in the logistics, the venues, the speakers and the attendance numbers. They're all important, but they don't necessarily tell you whether an event was a success. The question I'm becoming increasingly interested in is much simpler: Did we create value for the people in the room? So far this year, we've seen an 11% increase in unique event attendees compared to the same period last year. What excites me most is that this suggests we're engaging a broader group of members across our community, rather than simply seeing our most engaged members attend more events. Also, our event feedback continues to be consistently strong and one of the comments we hear time and time again is that people leave having made a new connection, learnt something useful or met someone they otherwise wouldn't have crossed paths with. For someone whose job is essentially bringing people together, that's a pretty nice thing to see. If the first half of the year is anything to go by, the second half should be pretty exciting. If you're not already a member, join us via the link in the comments and see what's coming up. We'd love to have you there!
