Will your POS pass Europe's 2027 cybersecurity law?
From late 2027, connected products sold in Europe will need to meet a new baseline for cybersecurity — covering secure identity, data protection, vulnerability handling, and long-term updates.
For payment terminals, that's a tough ask.
Fleets are large, long-lived, expensive to swap, and often rely on:
→ certificates that expire
→ PKI that's painful to maintain
→ crypto that won't age well into the quantum era
Here's the part most people miss:
The infrastructure to secure these devices already exists — in the SIM and the mobile network.
At Pairpoint, we use the SIM as a hardware security module.
A lightweight agent turns a standard SIM (or eSIM) into a quantum-safe root of trust — generating symmetric keys on-device, encrypting data in transit, and rotating credentials continuously. All delivered from inside the operator network.
What that means for POS estates:
✅ No expiring certificates to chase
✅ No new PKI, no special hardware, no forklift upgrades
✅ Brownfield and greenfield devices, on the same security baseline
✅ A clear, auditable path to the 2027 deadline
If you run, build, or acquire POS terminals in Europe, the question isn't whether you'll need to act.
It's whether you'll bolt on more cost — or use what's already in the device.
