Our research involving 1,352 patients and carers revealed a significant "knowledge gap." Patients are actively seeking reliable evidence-based guidance on nail damage, and the nurses we meet are incredibly motivated to provide it—yet often lack the required knowledge. Here's the reality: Up to 90% of patients experience nail damage during cancer therapy, yet only 1 in 10 feel they receive adequate advice on how to manage it. This gap is leaving patients unprepared and, in many cases, suffering preventable damage. Our goal is simple: make their jobs easier by providing clear, concise, and evidence-based resources. Our patient information booklet, now distributed across 400+ hospitals, is designed to do exactly that—helping to facilitate those crucial conversations about nail health. What we've learned from our visits: Nurses want to support their patients comprehensively, but they often lack easy-to-use resources. We're here to change that. During our discussions with the professional and caring nursing staff, one theme emerged consistently: clinicians are fully aware of the cancer nail care gap—up to 90% of patients experience nail damage, yet only 1 in 10 feel they received advice when it occurred — and are eager for reliable, clinically validated approaches to nail damage prevention and management. Here's why this matters: It's not enough to acknowledge the problem of nail damage. We must equip healthcare professionals with clinically proven solutions that actually work and don't just mask the nail damage. The centre will be open Monday to Friday, 10:00am–4:00pm, providing a welcoming and supportive space for anyone affected by cancer. Located onsite at Stepping Hill Hospital, near Outpatients C, the centre offers an open, accessible environment where people across Stockport and beyond can access safe, practical support, information, and guidance when they need it most. I’m incredibly proud and excited to see this vision become a reality.
