This involves end to end project management from writing the business case, achieving sign off from the CEO and Board of Directors through to extensive internal and external communications and event planning. This includes working with external provider to create a shortlist of event challenges, through to winning the hearts and minds of colleagues so that 50 participants choose to sign up, each pledging to raise £1,000 each towards our fundraising target of £50,000. It includes running regular fundraising updates, generating new ideas of fundraising and encouraging the sharing of best practice as well as the health and safety of our team with check-ins on how their physical training is going towards this marathon effort.

This project has brought together teams across Hays to capture the real value of our volunteering, fundraising, and employability programs, validated by Social Value Portal. It tells the story of how we generated over £55m in social value in our first year of capturing and measuring, how we supported over 200+ charities and good causes via our partners at Neighbourly, and launched initiatives like Project Flourish and EveryYouth partnerships. More than a report, it’s a milestone that embeds purpose into our strategy and shows how we create a sustainable world of work.

By leveraging Neighbourly’s network of over 21,000 verified causes, we ensure at Hays that our volunteering efforts are impactful and aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals such as Quality Education and Reducing Inequalities.
Neighbourly campaigns not only support vulnerable communities but also strengthen employee engagement and wellbeing. Internal feedback shows 94% of volunteers felt a sense of achievement, and 88% felt closer to their community, which is also important to us.
This is our 3rd year of partnering with Neighbourly - in FY24 we delivered over 17,000 hours of volunteering and supported over 400 charities and good causes in the Neighbourly network, generating over £250,000 of social value through our volunteering activities.Other creators -

We supported the day on behalf of ELSA, the award winning not for profit who provide targeted and transformational education programmes to young people, helping them to reach their potential. The day itself saw individual and team activities take place, students beginning to build a profile and see pathways for personal development and future plans.
Together, we’re helping bridge the gap between education and employment by hosting Discover, Believe, Become careers workshops at Hays London (Cheapside). Our colleagues volunteer as table coaches and mock interviewers, giving KS4–5 students—including those with SEND—real insight into hiring processes and the transferable skills employers value (teamwork, problem‑solving, communication). The programme aligns to the Gatsby Benchmarks and showcases how business, charity and community can collaborate to build confidence and aspiration. Huge thanks to the ELSA team and partners, and a special thanks to Mace too, for making this possible.
