It was great to see different Sony companies coming together as one team to celebrate LGBTQ+ community. The atmosphere was incredible. Thousands of people cheering, smiling and celebrating made it a day I’ll never forget. It reminded me why I’m so proud to live in London and to work for a company that truly supports diversity and inclusion and gives us the opportunity to be part of events like this. A big thank you to everyone across Sony Europe who helped organise the event and to all the colleagues who took part. You made it such a special experience. I’ve watched firsthand as the industry shifted from quietly testing to a full-on scramble, with everyone obsessing over the optimal workflow. While European old-money elites rail against AI for threatening the film industry, Meta was an official Cannes sponsor and multiple AI films screened openly; South Korea has dedicated academies training AI filmmakers, whose works will compete at the Busan International Film Festival this October 2026; and Dr. Wong, Chairman of the Hong Kong Film Development Council, had a thoughtful, in-depth conversation with us about the future of AI-powered Hong Kong KungFu film. The real divide has never been pro-AI vs. anti-AI—it’s between those who disclose and those who don’t. The entire industry is quietly testing these tools, but almost no one will say so publicly so far. Embrace AI, embrace SD2, embrace this era of creative democratization. Seeing that level of excitement for running AI agents in production on Kubernetes was truly energizing. 🙌 To every attendee who showed up today — the turnout completely exceeded our expectations. Yet so much of modern work practices are built around distractions and micro-tasking. Leveraging AI can help or it can amplify it or both at the same time. Using AI to summarise is powerful but just as you take a book like Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell and distill it down to the maxim of 10,000 hours, you may miss the wider picture. Reading Jim Kwik, and he suggests planning for distraction to improve focus. This is not a new concept, many books recommend it such as 12 Week Year. So why's it so hard to do? I think there are several factors: 1. We need to set the expectations others can have on us 2. We have a FOMO equivalent, need to be needed and to be important 3. We have lost the ability to focus and prioritise Just back from a week off work, and have a ton to catch up on. The AI summary didn't help, it timed out and missed too much context. Time to rely on old school methods, set aside time to catch up, ask for what's important from several sources, and trust anything important will surface one way or another. - Random Thought of the Day

Zhaohui Jia liked thisZhaohui Jia liked thisWhilst Money20/20 Amsterdam is over, the conversations continue. Three things I'm taking away from my first Money20/20 with J.P. Morgan: 1. The European fintech ecosystem is really impressive, with a strong focus on solving for regional use cases. The breadth of companies, the quality of solutions and the pace of adoption really stood out. It's a real reminder of how much innovation is happening across the industry. 2. Collaboration was a prominent theme across the conference. The most exciting solutions aren't being built by one firm alone. They're being built at the intersection of bank-grade trust and scale, and fintech speed and agility. Banks and fintechs building together, not in parallel. 3. And when done right, the client outcomes are real. Take fraud as an example - combating it effectively means coordinated action across banks, fintechs and the wider ecosystem. No single player can solve it alone and that's precisely what makes partnerships so important. If we didn't get the chance to connect this week, drop me a message. Morgan team, including: - James Allington, moderating a panel about the changing European Payments landscape and how innovation is accelerating, driven by the need for a strong customer experience, whilst leveraging existing infrastructure. - Two great sessions from Emma Landriault and Mehtaj Syed on the utility of tokenised deposits and public blockchain in providing banks with always-on payment and settlement infrastructure. - Karen Ions discussing how virtual cards are emerging as a scalable solution to modernise corporate payables and the European collaboration with Mastercard. - Katja Lehr’s session discussing the harmonisation of regulation, creating competitive advantages for Europe Special thanks to the organising team for absolutely crushing it and ensuring the event was a success! I had a great time chatting with Julie Neumann, Martin Thwaites and Scott Carey for LeadDev yesterday. We discussed how insights into system performance is critical not only for reliability but also for accelerating developer velocity. At the same time, the rise of AI is increasing system complexity and reducing overall comprehension, making observability more essential than ever. From the survey, it’s is also pretty clear that incidents are still the go-to measure for reliability. But should they be? They’re really a lagging indicator when you think about it.

The first meetup I ever spoke at was React Advanced London back in Feb 2024, so this community holds a special place for me. It’s been awesome to see how much it’s been evolving and how many people are part of it. And this shift Robert is describing resonates a lot. We’re seeing it everywhere right now. The pace of change across the industry is tangible and even feels like a high speed train that’s not slowing down. That can make it a challenge to stay grounded. But I don’t think this is about replacing what came before. If anything, it’s exposing more what actually matters. AI is compressing the gap between idea and execution. More people can build, faster than ever. But that just raises the stakes. The fundamentals don’t go away: - Scaling systems - Observability - Resilience - Owning outcomes, not just shipping code We used to delay these because building took time. Now you can ship in hours. Which means you can break things just as fast. So the role evolves. Frontend → full stack → product engineer → something broader still. Higher leverage, higher abstraction, but also more responsibility. Feels like we’re at a point where we either resist this shift, or we lean into it and get better because of it. I’m firmly in the second camp.
