On Tuesday, July 7, The Delaware Department of Health and Social Services, through it’s Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health joined with Delaware hospital leaders from across the state at Bayhealth Hospital in Dover to announce the adoption of new statewide Emergency Department Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) Treatment Guidance. The guidance, developed through Delaware’s Overdose System of Care (OSOC), establishes a consistent framework for how emergency departments identify, treat, and connect patients experiencing opioid withdrawal or overdose to ongoing care. These recommendations reflect nearly a year of collaboration among emergency physicians, addiction specialists, hospitals, behavioral health professionals, and state partners. Our youngest patients had an all-star lineup of visitors this week as University of Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens student-athletes and everyone's favorite Blue Hen, YoUDee, traded the stadium for the halls of ChristianaCare's Center for Women's & Children's Health, bringing Blue Hen spirit, smiles and encouragement to children and families in our NICU and Ronald McDonald House Family Room. As part of ChristianaCare's partnership with Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), we're committed to creating exceptional experiences for children and families—from advanced pediatric care to moments that bring comfort, joy and connection during a hospital stay. From signing mini footballs and posing for photos to sharing high-fives and heartfelt conversations, every interaction was a reminder that sometimes the greatest plays happen off the field. Thank you to our Child Life Specialist, Shannon Taylor, who helped bring this winning game plan to life. Her dedication and creativity created an experience where every child felt like an MVP. We're grateful to the University of Delaware Football team and YoUDee for taking time out of their day to remind our youngest patients that they have an entire community cheering them on. The memories they helped create will last long after the final whistle. Now that's what we call a touchdown. 💙 🏈 #LoveOfHealth #netDE #udel #udfootball #nicu

I had an amazing day shadowing Dr. Barb Albani, ChristianaCare’s head of Neurointerventional Surgery. ChristianaCare’s nationally recognized program is a testament to the unbelievable dedication and skill of Dr. Albani and her colleagues. Most important though, Dr. Albani repeatedly emphasized throughout the day how much she and her team trust each other and are there to support each other. Truly incredible work by an incredible team (and very patient to put up with me all day). ChristianaCare
