Food and beverage, personal care, and home care manufacturers could face indirect but meaningful implications from EPA’s draft Sixth Contaminant Candidate List (CCL 6), which again identifies disinfection byproducts (DBPs) as a priority group with renewed attention and an expanded scope. Because these industries use municipal tap water as a production input, changes to the regulatory baseline for public utilities may warrant proactive DBP monitoring and might challenge existing removal processes and technologies. Integral's Kristian Fried breaks down what this means for process water users in our latest article. #CCL6 #regulatoryupdate #EPAnews

Pharmaceuticals are included in EPA’s draft CCL 6. If finalized, they would be formally recognized for the first time as a federal priority contaminant group. EPA has also issued nonbinding health benchmarks for 374 active pharmaceutical ingredients, allowing for large-scale quantitative risk assessments. Because these substances typically reach the water cycle through human excretion and improper disposal, a proactive approach by pharmaceutical manufacturers will be key to successfully addressing increasing regulatory and public attention. Comments on EPA’s proposed CCL 6 are due June 5, 2026. Integral's Dr. Kristian Fried and Dr. Jennifer Wollenberg break down what this means for drug manufacturers in our latest article. #article #CCL6

Major news in PFAS regulations! 💧 EPA proposes to maintain 4 ppt MCLs for PFOA and PFOS but rescind regulations for four other PFAS (PFHxS, PFNA, GenX, and PFBS); also proposes extension of the compliance deadline to 2031. Public comments are open and a virtual hearing is set for July 7, 2026. Learn more in our article, written by Heather Lynch and Morgan Willming, PhD, DABT. #PFAS

Unintentional microplastics from consumer products have quietly entered EPA's regulatory pipeline, and industry may be more exposed than many realize as EPA's Sixth Contaminant Candidate List (CCL 6) marks a watershed moment towards federal regulation under the Safe Drinking Water Act. The April 2026 draft CCL 6 doesn't create enforceable limits, but it activates the same regulatory mechanism that turned PFAS into one of the largest environmental liability stories of the past two decades. EPA has explicitly stated that CCL 6 will prioritize identifying plastic pollution sources contributing to microplastics in drinking water. Product formulations, packaging, manufacturing discharges, and supply chain exposures are all on the table. The comment window on the CCL6 closes June 5, 2026. Integral's Kristian Fried and Jennifer Wollenberg break down what CCL 6 means for consumer products companies in our latest article. #microplastics #ccl6
