Commissioner Erin Dalton joined New York City Council Member Wilson, Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal, representatives from the West Side community, and DHS outreach teams aboard the Intrepid for a discussion on strategies to address street homelessness. The conversation underscored the importance of strong partnerships in helping unsheltered New Yorkers access care and services. DHS outreach teams work tirelessly to build trust through repeated engagement, connect individuals to shelter and housing opportunities, and coordinate with healthcare providers, social service organizations, and community stakeholders to support lasting stability. By working together, the City continues to advance compassionate, effective solutions that improve outcomes for vulnerable New Yorkers. #NYCDSSCares Helen Arteaga PhD

Today, NYC is facing both Code Red (temperature) and Code Gray (air quality) conditions. Exposure to both extreme heat and poor air conditions caused by wildfire smoke can be dangerous to everyone, especially those experiencing street homelessness and other vulnerable New Yorkers. DSS outreach teams are distributing masks, in addition to offering water and connection to shelter and cooling centers. Stay safe, minimize any strenuous outdoor activity, and be sure to call 311 if you see anyone in need of help, or 911 in an emergency. #NYCDSSCares Helen Arteaga PhD Erin Dalton

DSS/DHS, in partnership with United Way of New York City and Volunteers of America, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony today at Legacy Family Residence in Brooklyn. Staff from VOA and residents attended the event and are grateful for the newly created library space, which included a variety of books, bookshelves, chairs, signage, technology equipment, and more. DSS/DHS and UWNYC continue to collaborate to expand the libraries in shelter initiative that has successfully supported families with children annually. #NYCDSSCares Helen Arteaga PhD

NYC Department of Homeless Services reposted this
NYC DSS Commissioner Erin Dalton, joined by Council Member Justin Sanchez and the NYC Department of Small Business Services participated in a walkthrough of the Hub in City Council District 17 in the Bronx to visit local businesses, highlight the City's business support services, and gain firsthand insight into the district's challenges and opportunities. The Hub serves a vital role as a center for commerce, shopping, office space, community, transportation, and economic support in the Bronx. This area is at a major crossroads, the juncture of East 149th Street and Third Avenue. Vibrant public art, colorful murals, and free public programming bring energy and culture to the Hub every day. The HUB Third Avenue BID partners closely with local businesses and organizations to sponsor these events and keep the community thriving. #NYCDSSCares Helen Arteaga PhD
