We dive into our script, running through the pitch on autopilot…like the prospect’s attendance is just a formality. Jonny Holsten’s Bridge Selling method starts somewhere else entirely. Step one isn’t pitching. It’s making sure you’ve actually identified the right problem. His number: ask 11+ questions before you move on. Here’s the rub… Gong’s research on over 500,000 sales calls found that hitting that 11-14 question range correlates with a ~70% success rate. Read that again. Ask more questions. Don’t be a hyperactive urinal.

But nobody’s checking how much wool the sheep has left. A lot of businesses are like this…busy doing work, measuring revenue…but not keeping an eye on the profit.

Jake Brown shared thisAccountability almost broke me before it helped me. For decades, "accountability" meant someone checking if I'd failed yet. For the ADHD brain, that's not motivation. That's pre-planned failure with a guilt chaser. Cue rejection sensitive dysphoria...my brain skips straight to "they're disappointed in me" before I've even started the task. Then something shifted. I started working with people who wanted something FOR me...not just something from me. They weren't auditing me. They were rooting for me. Nudging me on. New word. Same idea. Completely different impact on my nervous system. If "accountability" makes you want to disappear...it might not be you. It might just need to look more like nudging. "Why didn't I start this earlier?" "What if I let my family down?" But maybe it doesn’t have to be that complicated. You’re just putting something on the shelf today that your future self will be glad to find later. Turns out, building wealth isn’t always about thinking bigger. Jake Brown shared thisThis 4th of July I spent a lot of time pondering freedom. (Probably too much time, honestly. It’s kind of my thing… I get a thought stuck in my head and just turn it over and over until it starts to say something.) Here’s where I landed: Freedom is what we celebrate. Safety is what makes it possible. We wave the flag for freedom every year. Nobody throws a parade for safety though. It’s the quiet stuff underneath the loud stuff. Kind of like a foundation. When is the last time someone took their picture with the foundation when they bought a house? So, there’s a distinction I keep circling back to. Being declared free and being able to live free are not the same thing. You can hand someone their freedom on paper and they’ll still flinch at loud noises. Still sleep with one eye open. Still scan the room before they make a decision. One of those is a legal status. The other is a nervous system finally being allowed to exhale. I think about this most when I think about kids who’ve survived trafficking. Rescue isn’t the finish line. It’s the starting gun. The moment someone gets pulled out of harm is the moment the long work begins. You can’t build trust on top of fear. You can’t build a future on a foundation you don’t trust is going to hold yet. So, that’s the quiet genius behind what organizations like Safe House Project actually do. They’re not just opening a door and calling it done. They’re building the floor under a kid’s feet. Coordinated care, a place to land, a meal, another meal, people who show up again tomorrow and the day after that. Somewhere for healing to stand while it happens. Safety isn’t the reward for surviving something. It’s the prerequisite for recovering from it. Safety isn’t the destination. It’s the foundation everything else gets built on. Jake Brown shared thisWHAM! “What in the world!?!?” I step out of the office and see my wife wielding a flip flop. WHAP! I turn to see a kid slamming his shoe into the window. ALL my kids are running around with shoes on their hands. “What are y’all doing?” “Saving the world!!” Yells the youngest. WHAM! “Killed a thousand more!” Cheers my son. My wife sees the look on my face and explains. “We left the door open and some flies came in. Every one we squish now means it won’t lay eggs. Grab a shoe!” *** I recently launched a podcast (Doing Business with ADHD). I was nervous. Finishing is hard for me. A podcast was on my bucket list. A few people encouraged me to try. One even dared me (you know him as the cohost, 📈Caleb Bogia-Curles, CFP® ). My number 1 fear was that nobody would care. That I would be adding to the noise. That I would simply be bothering people. But, we gave it a go. We recorded. We published. I almost chickened out. I prepared myself for the silence…for the crickets all creators fear. Ding. I got an email. Then a DM. A slack message. Another email. *** We’ve shared 1 episode each week since. There have been no crickets. This has very little to do with me. It has everything to do with the network around me. This community of supporting clients, vendors, and connections. This Society of Cricket Crushers! *** All around us, people are starting businesses. Writing posts. Sending emails. People are opening up, being vulnerable, and sharing. They’re willing to risk the dreaded crickets to add some light in the world. *** Let’s run an experiment… Just like my wife and kids were running around smashing flies, let’s get rid of the crickets. Julie, I ran to the restroom after a sales call where the seller did just this...so it was fresh on my mind.
I struggled with follow ups until I heard Catherine Brown's take. Following up is a kindness if done well.
That reminded me of my wife telling me the grocery list in the morning & texting it to me later. I've never been mad or insulted that she recognized I'd been busy and followed up.

Jake Brown liked thisJake Brown liked thisIt's fun seeing my designs in the wild. I studied graphic design and that's all I did for 20some years. Then I got into messaging strategy and realized I had spent almost two decades putting the visual cart before the messaging horse. Now I barely open Illustrator. But walking into a client's space and seeing something you helped build, still gets me. We worked through who they serve and what problem they solve before we ever talked about colors or a mark. The brand identity grew out of that clarity. When the message is clear, the visual identity becomes something people trust. When it's not, it's just decoration. Both matter. Just in that order.
