Market signal: future of business ops is in agent orchestration OpenAI recently launched Frontier, a new AI agent management platform - if their announcement is anything to go by the new system is designed to address the fragmented workflows, multiple different systems and nuanced business context that stop many businesses getting full value from AI. These concerns will be familiar to most scholarly publishers. I've written before about the emergence of agents in the scholarly workflow. I talk to publishers about it as part of my work with pure.science. It won't be a surprise to hear (scholarly) publishing needs agents done differently. Alongside overall orchestration, access to business context, permissions and guardrails, agents for our industry need: - Access to industry standards & datasets - Publishing-specific tools for high-value publishing use cases (think typesetting, metadata enrichment etc) - Full audit trails - Versioning and content preservation If the Frontier announcement piqued your interest but you want to see what agent orchestration could look like for publishing-specific workflows, get in touch.
