This established an Engineering and Computer Science Initiative within the Utah System of Higher Education (USHE), with the goal to increase the number of students graduating from engineering, computer science, and related technology programs. This also created the Technology Initiative Advisory Board (TIAB), appointed by the Governor, that makes recommendations to the Board of Regents about allocating funds to state schools. For 2015 the funds totaled $4.5 million.

Wrapped up a great two days in Bellevue with Puget Sound Energy for the annual Smart Energy Consumer Collaborative (SECC) Members Meeting. The thing that stook out to me - how important the customer relationship is, and how the affordability issues that are rampant across the industry today are going to impact that. PSE's SVP Aaron August was our keynote speaker, and talked about how we couldn't just go from "ratepayers" or "meters" to customers, but rather, we needed to extend that relationship to partners. The concept is so important and powerful, but then in our breakout sessions, everything kept coming back to affordability. Rates and prices keep going up, customers don't feel they're getting any more benefits and are becoming increasingly frustrated and distrusting of their utility. It's why Powerley spent years designing and building BillWise AI, the first of its kind product aimed at helping customers manage their energy costs while empowering CSR's to address customer inquiries better and faster, reducing utility operating costs and leaving customers feeling in control. Tools like this are going to be critical for utilities for them to open up the possibility of turning their customer relationship into a partnership.
