Dale Wilsher, PCC shared thisOne of the first questions I try to answer when I begin working with a coaching client is, "Who are you when the pressure is on?" Most of us have a pretty good sense of who we are when things are going well. We know our strengths and how to put them to work. With a clear eye toward our goals, we’re confident in the kind of leader we want to be. Pressure changes the picture. I've watched confident leaders become hesitant or lean into people-pleasing. I've seen highly decisive leaders start trying to control everything around them, rather than trusting their team. When we’re stressed, most of us don't become different people. We default to predictable patterns that can overshadow the strengths we rely on when we're at our best. That's one of the reasons I ask every coaching client to complete a DISC personality assessment before our first meeting. DISC gives us a common language for understanding both your natural personality and what tends to happen when you're under pressure. Once you recognize those patterns, you're much more likely to notice them before they begin influencing your decisions. Dale Wilsher, PCC shared thisWell...we did it. Last night I hit Send. After more than a year of writing, rewriting, deleting, questioning, rewriting again, and wondering if I'd ever reach the finish line, I submitted the full manuscript of my newest book to my editor. Introduction. Eight chapters. Epilogue. Appendices. Worksheets. Graphics. The whole thing. When I started this journey with my incredible book coach, Alexandra O'Connell, I thought I might write a 35,000-word book. It became 50,000. Last night I submitted more than 65,000 words—along with dozens of custom visuals that bring the ideas to life. Somewhere along the way, this became a much bigger project than I ever imagined. If you've written a book, you know. This isn't the final cover (I couldn't resist making one with ChatGPT just to make it feel real 😄), but seeing it sitting in a binder reminds me how far this project has come. The title is: Stop Faking It How to Stop Performing and Start Leading with Your Authentic Personality Now the manuscript heads into the first round of professional editing, followed by another round after that, while we begin designing the official cover. If all goes according to plan, it will be available on Amazon on November 1. Today I'm relieved and grateful. Grateful for everyone who encouraged me, challenged me, read early drafts, listened to half-formed ideas, and believed this book deserved to exist—even on the days I wasn't so sure. One step closer.

Dale Wilsher, PCC shared thisI'm a fast-mover by nature — quick to decide, quick to act, always ready for the next thing. Patience has always been a skill I've had to build, not one that comes naturally. I'm never going to be the calmest person in the room, and that's okay — it's not who I am. What I've learned instead is elevated authenticity; the art of staying true to my fast, driven self while adding just enough patience to consider the people I'm leading. It's the balance between the courage to be who I am and the consideration to slow my roll when someone else needs me to. Dale Wilsher, PCC shared thisSuch a full-circle moment. Decades ago, I stood in front of more than 200 women at my sorority's monthly chapter meetings at The University of Georgia to give reports. I was awful. My hands shook. I sweated through every presentation. I rushed through every word. Standing in front of a room was one of the most uncomfortable things I had to do. This week, I came back to Athens as a faculty member for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Institute for Organizational Management. And one of the topics I taught was Communicating with Confidence. If someone had told that college-aged version of me that one day I'd make my living speaking to audiences and teaching others how to communicate with confidence, I never would have believed them. I also had the privilege of teaching Delegation and Dealing with Challenging Employees to an incredible group of chamber and association executives who are deeply invested in strengthening their communities and helping their businesses thrive. Thank you to Cecilly "Cici" Francisco, IOM, CDP® and Karyn MacRae, IOM, CAE, CMP for taking such wonderful care of us throughout the week, to Anita Stump, IOM KyACE for leading our class so well, and to my students—especially Joey Parks and Deb Dollarhide Stapleton—for making the week such a joy. I'm proud to be part of this faculty. And, to be honest, I am proud of how far I have come. When you’ve got big goals and dreams that you're still chasing, it's easy to forget that today's reality was once something you only hoped was possible.

Dale Wilsher, PCC shared thisNobody looks at a line like this and thinks, "This is exactly where I want to be right now." After years of traveling for speaking engagements, I've spent more time in airports than I care to admit. And while I still don't enjoy standing in long lines, they remind me of something I see all the time in leaders and high achievers. We feel pressure whenever things aren't moving as quickly as we'd like. We wait for a decision. A response. A promotion. A client. A result. The longer we wait, the more urgency starts whispering that something must be wrong. We feel compelled to do something, fix something, push something forward. But not every delay is a problem. Sometimes the pressure isn't coming from the situation itself. It's coming from our discomfort with uncertainty and our belief that progress should always be visible. The truth is that some of the most important things in life and leadership happen during seasons when it feels like nothing is happening at all. Relationships deepen. Ideas develop. Confidence grows. Opportunities take shape. I've learned that waiting becomes much easier when we stop treating it as wasted time and start looking for what it might be offering us instead. The next time you find yourself stuck in a line, waiting for an answer, or wondering why things aren't moving faster, consider this: Pressure makes us want to escape the wait. Presence allows us to receive what the wait has to offer.

Dale Wilsher, PCC shared thisI've spoken on a lot of stages. But I'll be honest — figuring out what to wear has always been more complicated than it looks. Recently, I worked with Robyn Balsley of Confidently Styled for a speaking stage wardrobe consultation, and it was one of the best investments I've made in my business. She came to my house, went through my closet with me, and helped me see what was actually working — including pieces I had completely underestimated. (My face forgot to show up to the fun — noted for next time!) Then she did something I didn't expect: she built an entire styling wall of shoes, pants, blazers, and blouses — all with clickable shopping links to fill my gaps. No guesswork, no overwhelm. As a fellow speaker, Robyn gets it. Looking on brand, feeling comfortable, and showing up as relevant and polished is part of the work. The visual impression we make affects the mental and emotional impact we have on our audience. That's kind of a big deal. Next week I'm speaking for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and for the first time in a long time, I know exactly what I'm wearing and I feel great about it. Already booked her to come back in the fall.
