When an e-invoicing mandate goes live, there's no partial credit for being close. Italy's mandatory e-invoicing rules are a prime example — invoices not issued in the correct FatturaPA XML format via SdI are treated as if they were never issued at all, with VAT penalties that can range from 90% to 180% per violation. The gap between knowing a mandate is coming and actually being ready for it is where most companies get caught. Throughout the process, Sovos has actively engaged with HMRC and DBT in the co-design of the UK e-invoicing framework and will continue to contribute as the initiative develops. David McCann reposted thisDavid McCann reposted thisDigital platforms are the epicenter of a number of new compliance reviews across the globe – but Italy’s ongoing #VAT investigation into some of the world’s biggest social media sites (including LinkedIn) is one to watch. Italy recently amended its 2026 barter VAT rules, reverting to the “subjective value” principle based on contractual monetary value, rather than supplier costs. The question remains – will exchanges of users’ data now be considered transactions subject to VAT? For enterprises, the revised rules may require a reassessment of any transactions in Italy after January 1, as the shift applies retroactively. Compliance teams will need to work quickly to reduce risk. It certainly helps to have unified processes and strategic automation in place to accelerate the process. If anything, this near-overnight change in Italy is a critical reminder that new tax laws don’t just appear out of thin air – they exist in response to evolving regulatory priorities and political influence. David McCann liked thisDavid McCann liked thisOpen to Work Series | Product Skills That Drive Results (Post 15) 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆: The Most Underrated Project Management Skill One of the biggest surprises for people moving into Project Management is this: You can be responsible for delivery without directly managing anyone. ✔️ No authority over developers. ✔️ No authority over designers. ✔️ No authority over stakeholders. ✔️ No authority over vendors. Yet you're still expected to deliver results. Over the years, I've learned that successful delivery depends far more on influence than authority. A few examples from my own experience: 🔹 Aligning Marketing, Sales, Legal, Finance, and Technology teams on ecommerce initiatives with competing priorities 🔹 Working across multiple vendors and internal teams during platform migrations and major releases 🔹 Negotiating scope and timelines when resources were constrained but business objectives remained critical 🔹 Helping stakeholders understand tradeoffs so teams could make informed decisions together In every case, the goal wasn't to tell people what to do. The goal was to create clarity, build trust, and help everyone move toward a shared outcome. I've found that influence is built through: ✅ Transparent communication ✅ Active listening ✅ Making priorities and tradeoffs visible ✅ Following through on commitments ✅ Keeping teams focused on outcomes, not opinions The best Project Managers aren't traffic cops. Legacy software is no longer just an IT cost; it is a fiduciary liability... ARE YOU READY? One VP's Perspective: "We aren't just managing code anymore; we’re managing a legal and financial perimeter. Every day we leave a legacy component un-containerized or un-patched, we are essentially self-insuring a multi-million dollar risk." Insurance carriers are moving from "general coverage" to "precision exclusion," where they may refuse to pay for any breach originating from software that is officially End-of-Life. Insurers are no longer just looking at your firewall; they are looking at your "Technical Health." While rates are stabilizing, underwriters are increasingly using "External Attack Surface Management" (EASM) tools to scan your production environments. If they detect EOL Java versions or unpatched middleware, they may exclude those systems from coverage entirely. They'll scan all 65,000+ ports of a company's external environment. They specifically target "vulnerable or unpatched software" and issue "Subject to Fix" notices...If a scan detects a critical vulnerability (like an unpatched Core-Logic component or EOL middleware) and the insured fails to remediate it, the insurer may exclude that specific risk from the policy or even rescind coverage for related ransomware events.
