Any infrastructure change must meet stringent requirements for: High availability Predictable latency Zero customer impact Operational simplicity Cost efficiency Rather than viewing this as a simple infrastructure upgrade, we approached it as a platform modernization initiative. Key engineering considerations: 1. Migrated hundreds of ElastiCache clusters across multiple AWS regions. Leveraged Valkey's compatibility with Redis OSS, eliminating application code changes. 2. Designed a phased rollout with automated validation, health checks, and rollback capabilities. 3. Performed production-scale benchmarking to validate throughput, latency, CPU utilization, and failover behavior before deployment. 4. Standardized the migration process through automation to ensure repeatability across environments. Outcomes ✔️ 20% reduction in cache infrastructure costs, resulting in over $100K in annualized savings ✔️ Improved resource utilization while maintaining application performance ✔️ Zero customer-facing downtime or service disruption during migration ✔️ Reduced operational overhead through standardized automation This project reinforces an important principle: "Cloud optimization is not a one-time cost exercise—it is a continuous engineering discipline." Modern platform engineering should simultaneously improve reliability, scalability, operational excellence, and unit economics. When architecture decisions are aligned with business outcomes, organizations can reinvest those savings into innovation rather than infrastructure maintenance. The chain includes: • Hidden iframes and heavily obfuscated JavaScript • A stealthy mshta.exe HTA loader running encrypted, fileless PowerShell • A final PowerShell stage that downloads, extracts, executes, and persists NetSupport RAT through disguised Startup shortcuts The result is full remote access for attackers with strong evasion across every layer of the infection path. This month’s report looks at a familiar pattern: attackers keep finding value in the systems organizations already trust. 🔗 Software supply chain attacks moved quickly across npm and PyPI, with malicious packages targeting developer, CI/CD, cloud, and AI workflow credentials. 🌐 Browser abuse showed up in a big way, including malicious Edge extensions and fake download ecosystems that turn normal user clicks into execution paths. 🔐 Credential compromise remained a major access path, especially around exposed VPNs, weak edge devices, reused passwords, and stolen administrative access. 🛠️ Ransomware activity continued to rely on practical intrusion tradecraft: custom backdoors, BYOVD techniques, lateral movement tooling, and security product tampering. 🎯 Espionage campaigns stayed quiet and persistent, using diplomatic lures, in-memory RATs, Google Sheets C2, DLL side-loading, and anti-analysis logic. For defenders, the message is clear. Endpoint visibility alone is not enough. Identity, browser activity, developer tools, package installs, cloud credentials, SaaS usage, and edge infrastructure all need to connect into the same detection story.
