I'm excited to share a recent AWS Database Blog highlighting how Securonix successfully reduced our cache infrastructure costs by 20% through the migration from Redis OSS to Amazon ElastiCache for Valkey.

As a cloud-native SaaS platform processing hundreds of terabytes of security telemetry every day, our caching layer is a critical component supporting low-latency microservices, distributed processing, and real-time analytics. Any infrastructure change must meet stringent requirements for:
High availability
Predictable latency
Zero customer impact
Operational simplicity
Cost efficiency
Rather than viewing this as a simple infrastructure upgrade, we approached it as a platform modernization initiative.
Key engineering considerations:
1. Migrated hundreds of ElastiCache clusters across multiple AWS regions.
Leveraged Valkey's compatibility with Redis OSS, eliminating application code changes.
2. Designed a phased rollout with automated validation, health checks, and rollback capabilities.
3. Performed production-scale benchmarking to validate throughput, latency, CPU utilization, and failover behavior before deployment.
4. Standardized the migration process through automation to ensure repeatability across environments.
Outcomes
✔️ 20% reduction in cache infrastructure costs, resulting in over $100K in annualized savings
✔️ Improved resource utilization while maintaining application performance
✔️ Zero customer-facing downtime or service disruption during migration
✔️ Reduced operational overhead through standardized automation
This project reinforces an important principle:

Modern platform engineering should simultaneously improve reliability, scalability, operational excellence, and unit economics. When architecture decisions are aligned with business outcomes, organizations can reinvest those savings into innovation rather than infrastructure maintenance.
