The difference between a $10K contract and a $100K contract is which budget you're competing for. Why startups can land contracts that are 10x larger than incumbents: A large platform focused on serving HVAC companies captures ~1% of their revenue. For example, a typical HVAC company making $1M pays the platform $10k. A startup, also specifically targeting HVAC companies, captures 4-10% of their revenue. The same $1M HVAC company pays the startup $40-100k. The difference is that the big-player platform is just another software expense, while the startup enables companies to operate with fewer employees. Replacing work lets your product capture a payroll budget that's 10x larger. This shift redefines your startup’s entire approach, while traditional platforms focus mainly on selling more seats and subscriptions. You focus on one industry and learn its operations inside out. You become part of their team. Big cos can’t work like this b/c they can’t focus solely & completely on a single vertical problem. Small teams can… and they have to. I’m interested in vertical AI companies that control entire workflows and are built by small teams close to operational work.

A thought to all you founders in the sports industry…. These are the top 3 things that will leave you DOA and your entire pitch will fall on deaf ears. -This is a small ecosystem… we do talk, and we do know each other -Don’t come in hot explaining the industry to those investing in it. -Don’t, just don’t, say “you are the only ones doing it”. Seems obvious, but I LITERALLY get it every single day. -If you name drop, I promise we will call that person… and most of the time, it doesn’t go well. We have deeper connections than you do, I can almost guarantee it. -A lot of founders think we weren’t in the trenches or operators first… now, not all of us were, but to be a serious sports investor we have gotten our reps in. -We see 100 plus pitches per month. Frankly, we’ve seen an idea/company like yours before. If you really are the only one… you better ask yourself “why” cause something is off then, and it’s prob your idea. It sucks to hear it, but it’s true. So a word to the wise, on these 3 things, flip it on its head. -Don’t name drop, let us ask you who you have -Be humble and confident. Not arrogant and explain shit to a toddler. (If you have to speak at a toddler level then you aren’t pitching the right group) -Concentrate on execution, how you will be 1 percent better and take over… not that you are the “one and only”. 90% of acquisition content assumes you're American with $500K and an SBA loan. "Find a $1M EBITDA business."     "Get 80% SBA financing."  "Pay yourself $200K while the business pays the loan." That's the US playbook. Great if you're there.                 But I'm in India. And the math here is completely different.       US Small Business Acquisitions:  → Mature market. Thousands of brokers. BizBuySell has 50,000 listings.       → SBA loans cover up to 80% of purchase price.   → Businesses sell at 3-5x EBITDA. Everyone knows the multiples.      → Sellers are sophisticated. They've read the books, hired advisors.        → Competition is brutal. Good deals get 10+ offers.  If you have capital and a US passport, it's a proven path. But it's crowded.  India Small Business Acquisitions:                                             → No ecosystem. No BizBuySell. Maybe 10-20 PE firms total doing SMB deals.  → No SBA equivalent. Acquisition financing barely exists.   → Businesses sell for 1-2x EBITDA — sometimes less.       → Sellers don't know what their business is worth. Many think "exit" means shutting down.   → Almost zero competition. Most deals are off-market.  It's harder to find deals. But when you find them, the economics are insane.  The real difference: In the US, you're buying efficiency. Pay market price, execute the playbook.  In India, you're buying inefficiency. No playbook exists. You build it yourself. Manufacturing units. Service businesses. Family-owned companies with retiring founders. Thousands of them. Almost no buyers.                       US advantage = access to capital and infrastructure.   India advantage = low competition and mispriced assets.  Pick the game that fits your situation.

🚨 Just in -- Column has crossed $200 million in revenue. A bank "founded" by Plaid co-founder that is worth perhaps as much (or more) than Plaid, but has taken no venture funding. Column powers some of the largest and most successful fintechs like Ramp, Brex, Wise, Mercury and others. They also provide essential infra for the early stage ecosystem. I have multiple companies (Seed and Series A stage) using Column. Great work by Alex Konrad on this profile. link in comments.
