It's so much more immersive than a video call.Gabriel Aul shared thisI am so enormously proud to share today's release of Horizon Workrooms - a product that my teams in London and I, and a huge number of partner teams, have been pouring our hearts and souls into for a long time now! Workrooms is a virtual collaboration experience that lets people come together to work in the same virtual room, regardless of physical distance. We've brought together a huge number of amazing new technologies for the first time, to create a really new kind of experience that transforms VR into a medium that's genuinely useful for work. I honestly can't describe the overwhelming joy of delivering on this long-held vision. It's the result of years of hard work and countless thoughtful decisions to create an experience that I think truly stands out as fresh, innovative, and thoughtfully designed. I'm so honored to have had the opportunity to build and lead this incredible effort, and to work with a group of world class people across so many teams and technologies. With this project, I believe we are designing and building key foundations for the world's next major computing platform. Thank you to Ashraf Alkarmi, Drew Houston, the Dropbox executive team, and the board for their trust and support. I’ve been a fan and customer of Dropbox from the early days, and I have deep respect for what this team has built. As a product leader, joining a company that helped pioneer product-led growth is energizing on its own. When you add a beloved and trusted brand, strong technical foundations, and a product portfolio that has helped shape how people work for nearly two decades, it becomes an even more meaningful opportunity. In this role, my focus will be simple: help Dropbox ship the right things at the right time for our customers. I’m incredibly proud of the work we’ve done and grateful to have been part of a company that continues to innovate across so many areas. I’ve had the chance to work with some truly exceptional people along the way, and I'm always amazed at how many have gone out of their way to help me over the years. Gabriel Aul liked thisGabriel Aul liked thisToday is my last day at Microsoft after nearly 17 years, and I've been trying to figure out how to sum up a journey that still feels hard to believe. Microsoft is the only company my kids have ever known me to work for. It's so ingrained in them that when one was asked as a 6-year old to name the three branches of government, he confidently put Microsoft first. But it wasn't obvious at the start that I would be here this long. In 2009, I accepted a job at Microsoft. My friends all asked me "Why on earth would you go to Microsoft?" Microsoft was known for boxed software, not online services and had a negative reputation in the Bay Area. Bing shipped faster than any other team and that was only once every six months. But as I joined it quickly became clear that the caliber of the people was immense. I found people with more intellectual horsepower, more genuine ambition, and having been a part of it, more willingness to reinvent themselves than anywhere I'd seen. In 2011, Qi L. asked me to move to Seattle. That decision reshaped my life in every sense making Seattle the only home my kids remember. Watching Bing grow into a profitable, competitive business was deeply satisfying, and helped demonstrate to the rest of the company how to operate in an online world. In 2018, Satya asked me to lead the Azure AI team. That set in motion the most exciting chapter of my career: watching large language models emerge, and having the privilege of bringing them to the world through the Microsoft Foundry and the Azure OpenAI Service. Riding that wave over the past three years has been extraordinary, and something I'll never stop being grateful for. Through all of it, I learned from outstanding leaders. My managers David Ku, Scott Guthrie, and Jay Parikh, and leaders like Amy Hood and Satya, each shaped how I think about building products, building culture, and building people up. I had a front-row seat to the transformation of Microsoft, and got to learn and grow right along with it. But if I'm being honest, much as I love the technology and celebrate the product launches, the best part was always the people I got to work alongside. The heart, grit, intensity, and passion of everyone I've been fortunate enough to work with is what I'll carry with me. I got far more credit than I deserved. The real work was theirs. To every teammate across these 17 years: thank you. This was the most formative chapter of my career, and you're the reason why. I'll always be long MSFT, both literally and in spirit. Gabriel Aul liked thisGabriel Aul liked thisReflecting on 30 Years at Microsoft It is with a genuine sense of fulfillment and gratitude that I share my decision to retire from Microsoft. After thirty years here, I am looking forward to concluding this chapter of my professional life. Throughout my tenure, I’ve had the opportunity to work on some truly significant technical challenges. From the early work on MSN and the Windows 2000 networking stack, to the development of WS-Man and my recent years with SMB3 and the Azure Edge suite, I take a great deal of pride in what we’ve built together. These milestones represent not just technical progress, but years of focused effort and shared goals. More than the products themselves, what I value most are the relationships I have built. I’ve been fortunate to work alongside exceptionally capable and motivated colleagues who have made the daily work meaningful. The support I’ve received from my managers and teams over three decades has been instrumental to my growth and to the impact we were able to achieve across the organization. Even the long hours—including those late-night CRI sessions—are memories I’ll keep, primarily because of the camaraderie and the spirit of the people I was working with. I am now looking forward to a change of pace. I’m eager to focus on personal interests and new pursuits with a more predictable schedule and a fresh perspective. For example, the server recognizes the migration cable attribute and can emulate the CD-ROM device recognized by the client, whereby the server may provide data including software code to the client computing device by emulating the CD-ROM device. Via the software code, the client computing device is bootstrapped to recognize that it is connected to the server instead of the hardware device. Data may then be migrated from the client to the server.

A method and system for downloading software update data for installing a revised software product on a client computer minimizes the amount of update data to be transmitted over the network by downloading only those files needed to put the client computer in the state for installing the product. In the beginning of the downloading process, the client computer obtains from a setup server an initial setup package that includes a setup program and a list of files required for installing the software product. The setup program running on the client computer then determines whether some current or earlier versions of those files required for installation already exist on the client computer, and compiles a request list of files needed for updating the client computer. The client computer sends the request list to a download server, which maintains a collection of update files and patches. In response to the request list, the download server downloads updating files to the client. Depending of the availability of the requested files or other factors, the downloaded files may or may not be exactly those requested. Using the downloaded files, the setup program updates the existing files to provide the set of installation files on the client computer. The desired revised software product is then installed on the client computer.
