Alex Iskold posted thisI’ve said this before and I will say this again: AI is an exponential boost, a 1000x for those who are competent and know their subject matter and know what they are looking for. It’s true in code, legal, accounting, medicine, any field really. But if you don’t understand things, don’t know the right questions to ask it’s not going to help. AI makes smart people way more powerful but on the flip side it might give incompetent people an illusion of power but instead it makes them dumber and lazier.

Alex Iskold posted thisHad one of the absolutely worst founder experiences in my 12 year venture career this week. Truly disrespectful, rude, lying and all around unacceptable behavior towards me and my colleagues plus totally wasting time of founders we already backed. This industry is a network and has a very long memory. Burning bridges makes no sense. We obviously dodged a bullet, but just utterly disappointing to see this happen.

What I'm watching across factory floors, chemical plants, and production lines is actual measurable ROI and value in both sustainability and productivity showing up in the physical industries that have never moved fast, that don't adopt technology unless the numbers are undeniable. When a refinery or a food processing facility starts generating quantifiable returns from Process-Aware AI, the conversation about whether this technology is real is effectively over. The boardroom signal matters too. Fortune 500 boards are replacing CEOs specifically to install leaders who can navigate the AI age. The most sophisticated organizations in the world are making irreversible bets, and those bets are being made with full information. Physical AI is the part of this shift that is fundamentally different from generative AI like AI companies selling to other AI companies. Process-Aware AI driving the self-driving factory that senses real-time fluid conditions, reasons the most optimal action, and acts is a different story entirely, and a more durable one. Every major paradigm shift in the last century looked uncertain from inside the transition. At Laminar, we're building in the middle of this one, and the work has never felt more urgent or more grounded in what's actually possible.

Unallocated computing engines are identified, and the unallocated computing engines are allocated to each selected computing domain according to predetermined selection rules for the domain. During an allocation improvement step, allocations among the computing domains are further adjusted to maximize a fitness statistic computed for the allocations.

Really fun to sit down with Dianne Na Penn, Head of Product for Research at Anthropic, right after the launch of Opus 4.5 to discuss everything about the new model. Dianne has been at Anthropic since the very early days as their first PM and has been instrumental in shipping many of Claude's most transformative capabilities over the past 2.5 years. We discussed how Anthropic builds models, what's actually working with computer use today, how they use Opus 4.5 internally, and why their safety focus is a competitive advantage. Some favorite parts: ▪️How Anthropic conducts research ▪️How builders should think about computer use and what's newly enabled by Opus 4.5 ▪️What's next for models ▪️How and why scaffolding and agent architecture have evolved A few takeaways: ➡️ What’s next for models Dianne's AGI timelines moved up this year. She explains the building blocks for transformative, long-running AI are largely in place. The bottleneck shifted from model capabilities to product innovation. She calls this a "product overhang": the challenge isn't whether models can handle ongoing responsibilities like code maintenance or portfolio monitoring, but designing the right experiences to harness them. What's needed: UX patterns for managing agent fleets, evaluation frameworks for long-horizon tasks, and products that move beyond chat toward proactive, persistent agents. ➡️ The evolution of scaffolding AI scaffolding underwent a fundamental transformation. In 2022-2024, most scaffolds were rigid instructions like training wheels keeping models on track. The best scaffolds today are lightweight augmentations using generic tools that maximize autonomy rather than constrain it. As models improve, successful builders iteratively remove parts of their scaffolds that no longer amplify intelligence. The builders who develop "model taste", maintaining libraries of ambitious prototypes and testing them with each release, discover breakthrough capabilities. ➡️ Why safety work is actually intelligence work Most safety discussions focus on preventing bad outcomes, but Dianne highlights an under-appreciated benefit: well-aligned models are better thinking partners. When models are trained to avoid sycophancy, they become independent thinkers that push back and offer genuine alternatives. This happened when she asked Opus 4.5 about pricing strategy: it generated approaches she hadn't considered.
