Jim Marcuccilli reacted on thisJim Marcuccilli reacted on thisLast Friday, the Indiana University Board of Trustees officially approved my promotion to Teaching Professor, effective July 1. As an 18-year-old, I came to campus to earn a degree from a top 10 program. This year, I’ll be serving in that same program as a Teaching Professor, the highest rank a lecturer can attain at Indiana University. That same 18-year-old laughed when her high school government teacher said he knew she’d be working in education someday. But here I am, 20 years later, doing exactly that. I love watching my students find themselves, both personally and professionally. Our future is going to be just fine. I love learning from my mentors and offering mentorship to others. Knowledge and lived experience should always be shared. I love working with my colleagues. They push, ground, and support me more than I ever thought people could (or would). I’m excited to see where my professional journey takes me next, but in this moment, I’m grateful for where it has brought me today! Last week the executive team at STAR Financial Bank hosted our annual MVP awards ceremony where we celebrate not only great individual performance throughout the past year but also individuals that embody our core values as an institution. I was humbled to be nominated by a couple individuals for our Company’s Community Impact award. The combination of knowing who nominated me and why was one of the most special moments of my professional career. Not because of the award. I never once expected to win an award for the work I do throughout the community, that’s a very personal choice that I make because I feel God calls me to do that kind of work. What struck me was how our organization goes about recognizing that kind of work being done by employees throughout our local communities. We stand by our employee’s passions financially, provide volunteer time and also recognize that impactful work being done in a meaningful way! Fast forward to this week and we were proud to receive “Indiana’s Best in Banking” by Forbes! So how important is culture to the success of an organization? You tell me!

Short Story Long: I was recently recognized as a Champion of Change which is an award that is peer nominated (thanks Nick Adams!) What makes this recognition especially meaningful is what it represents beneath the surface. The qualities it reflects: asking difficult questions, challenging assumptions, staying deeply curious, and pushing toward better outcomes are ones I’ve had to intentionally grow into over time. Earlier in my career, those instincts weren’t always clearly understood (or valued!), and I hadn’t yet learned how to channel them in a way that was constructive and consistently created impact. The journey from then to now has been the real reward. Learning when to push, how to frame challenges constructively, and how to pair curiosity with strategy has allowed me to turn those same instincts into momentum and build trust. This recognition feels less like a milestone and more like a marker of that growth, and a reminder that meaningful progress often begins with the courage to question and the discipline to evolve. I’m incredibly grateful to be doing that work at STAR Financial Bank, in an environment that values both the outcomes and the growth behind them. ⭐️🧡

Family Table is our way of showing gratitude to the donors who support the park with their time, talent, and treasure. Guests joined us for a warm and sunny evening filled with delicious food, engaging conversations, and a shared passion for our park and its mission. This year, we were thrilled to host the event in our beautifully restored prairie within the restoration area (not normally accessed by visitors). It was the perfect backdrop for connecting with so many friends and supporters, sharing stories about the impact of our programs, and looking ahead to the bright future we’re building together.
