Specialty claims aren’t a niche RCM problem (anymore). When VA, workers’ comp, auto, out-of-state Medicaid, or complex clinical cases stall for months, the impact isn’t just financial. Care gets delayed and patients end up confused about coverage for services they already received. Of course, the key issue is payer complexity, including ever-changing payer rules and stringent documentation requirements. And the riskiest claims are often the ones that look “fine” until they deny. Protecting reimbursement is shifting upstream, whether health systems are ready for it or not.
