Joy Randels posted thisDear Atlassian, You purchased Loom a product I have used since it was in #beta and I have recommended it to hundreds of people who now use it. Immediately after purchasing a company we loved you made changes, not minor adjustments, major ones. You changed customer service, how our assets are stored, and our course nearly doubled the price. You gave all of us a reason to leave. I am previous Atlassian customer and advocate because you changed, and not for the better, there is a reason millions of Reddit, Inc. threads expressing hatred for your company exist. Users went from being #ravingfans to rabid haters. You changed to fall in line with strict enterprise constraints where users will tolerate bad products and a terrible UX ever because they have no choice. Funny how an IPO often turns products into garbage, but that also creates opportunity for new innovators. The downside beyond customer abandonment is that in your case, the company has lost more than half its market value so far this year and you've laid off thousands. Traders state they fear other advance will make you obsolete. So is this acquisition an attempt to help right the ship? If so, perhaps you should have paid attention to the over 1000 posts on you community forum expressing their discontent over how you have handled this acquisition or maybe you should have polled the client base before making these changes because now you will have another product but lost it's customers. We all know that happy customers tend to tell on person, disappointed customers tell everyone. 🤔

Joy Randels shared thisWhat if the biggest barrier to economic mobility isn’t income—it’s financial literacy? One of the biggest leadership challenges I see today isn’t a lack of ambition. It’s a lack of financial confidence. We talk about economic development, workforce development, entrepreneurship, homeownership, and generational wealth as though they are separate issues. They’re not. They all begin with financial literacy. Yet millions of people are making life-changing financial decisions without ever being taught how credit works, how lending works, or how to build long-term financial resilience. At the same time, credit unions, community banks, employers, and community organizations are looking for better ways to create meaningful engagement and measurable impact. That gap matters. Financial literacy is no longer a “nice to have.” It’s becoming a growth strategy, a risk strategy, and a community impact strategy. That’s one of the reasons I work with Kredit Academy. Alpha has PK-8 operating in 20+ US locations and Puerto Rico plus half dozen specialty schools since 2014 and over the past couple of years expanded to PK-12 in some locations. They have been highly successful in progressive education techniques, aka student-centered, holistic pedagogical movement emphasizing learning-by-doing, critical thinking, and collaboration over rote memorization and their students rank in the top 1% nationally. With tuition other than in California ranging from $10k to $50k depending location grade level. Considering the cost of most private schools today the cost is reasonable. The fact that they teach all the academics in the traditional curriculum plus life skills from public speaking, entrepreneurship, emotional intelligence, storytelling, and problem solving along with emerging tech I would 100% sign up my child for the school regardless of the "guarantee”. I've been part of a program that teaches tech and entrepreneurship to high school and college students for several years, allowing them to begin building a business in high school is a massive advantage. I started by first venture at 14, my son is an entrepreneur, and I am currently mentoring four former students who began their businesses in college, two are now on their second venture having successfully exited their first. I think think is how education should work to create well rounded humans with real world skills. If capable adults is the goal then wouldn’t outcome based education be logical? This is an AI based high school, but this is the way it should be for undergraduate as well. Force the schools to focus on real world outcomes and you’ll see all the gears change inside our education system. Yes, education is also about learning non-job related things, becoming well rounded, learning to think critically, etc. No disagreement there. But why not do that in parallel with learning actual real world skills as well? This is a totally different business model, one that would require significant financing mechanisms in place to make it work, but there is a way to do it. Imagine if the school earned a bonus for every net dollar earned above $1M in revenue created by the student for X years after graduation. Now you’ve basically got a venture portfolio with a power law return profile. A handful of winning students “returns the portfolio”. This should exist.

I've spent decades in AI, data privacy, and cyber. I've built 10 tech companies. 63 of my former employees have gone on to become CEOs. My people come back to work with me again and again. So when I talk about conscious leadership, I'm not speaking theoretically. Here's the truth nobody is saying plainly: Oracle's 30,000 layoffs, the largest restructuring in its history, are not about AI. They are the direct human cost of a backdoor deal Sam Altman made that Oracle couldn't actually afford. OpenAI committed $300 billion to Oracle's infrastructure. Oracle took on over $100 billion in debt to deliver it. Now the stock is down 25% this year and 30,000 people, engineers, developers, product managers, customer support teams, woke up to an automated termination email before sunrise. AI is not destroying jobs. Unconscious leaders using AI as cover are. The technology is not the villain. The culture is. There are ethical ways to build the future of AI. This wasn't one of them. Tesla + SpaceX + 𝐱𝐀𝐈 are teaming up on a $20-25B chip manufacturing beast in Austin, the Terafab, aiming for a full terawatt of AI compute power per year. Because the world’s existing chip supply can’t keep up with what Musk’s companies actually need. And the skeptics are already out in force. Sound familiar? As a ten-time founder who’s stared down doubt more times than I care to count, I’m here to say: 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬. Elon knew 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 about building cars when he started Tesla. He knew 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 about rockets when he launched SpaceX. And chip manufacturing? That technology has been around since before he was even born. Yet here we are — again — questioning whether he can pull it off. Joy Randels shared thisMeta's Security Failures Aren’t Bugs; They’re a Business Model The latest WIRED investigation into WhatsApp’s security flaw should alarm everyone and not because it’s surprising, but because it’s predictable. Meta has once again demonstrated that #security, #privacy, and basic #cyber hygiene are optional line items, easily sacrificed when they interfere with scale, speed, or profit. A flaw that allowed billions of phone numbers to be stolen, exploited, and sold 1000 times over on the dark web didn’t emerge overnight. Researchers warned Meta about this exact vulnerability years ago. It was ignored until exposure became too large, too public, and too embarrassing to dismiss. That is what was required for the company act. This isn’t an isolated lapse. It’s a pattern across WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and every platform Meta touches. Their track record shows a consistent willingness to gamble with user safety, personal data, and global security. And the stakes keep getting higher. 🙈 🙉 🙊 The Real Issue: Ethics in Tech Have Become Optional We’ve normalized a culture where: • Security is reactive, not foundational • Data governance is an afterthought • Privacy is a marketing slogan, not a core principle • Accountability is only considered after public exposure This is not a technical problem. It’s an ethical failure and one that has been rewarded by the desire for instant gratification. ⚠️ Spoiler Alert: Now AI Is Pouring Gasoline on the Fire The WhatsApp flaw exposed billions of real, active phone numbers. Combine that with: • AI‑generated voice cloning • Hyper‑personalized phishing • Automated fraud campaigns • Deepfake identity attacks …and you have a threat landscape that is evolving faster than our regulatory frameworks, corporate governance models, or public awareness. Bad actors no longer need sophistication. They just need access and Meta, along with many others keeps leaving the doors unlocked. Profit Over People Is Not a Sustainable Strategy When organizations repeatedly choose growth over #ethics and safety, convenience over responsibility, and data extraction over human dignity, the consequences are compounded. We’re watching that play out in real time every day. The WhatsApp breach isn’t just a security story. It’s a case study in what happens when ethics are optional and governance is weak. If ethics, sound corporate governance, and conscious leadership were at the forefront these problems should not exist, but they do. Joy Randels shared thisI am extremely disappointed in the decision by lawmakers surrounding the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee and the negative impact on #STEM education and economic impact on our community. The turnover of the USFSM campus and its assets to New College of Florida is simply wrong. The wrong decision for students attending both schools, wrong for the businesses in our community, and wrong for the taxpayers in the State of Florida. Both schools serve a purpose, the student bodies are vastly different and removal USF means a massive loss of qualified workers needed in this region and an economic and intellectual drain on our community. The increased cost to taxpayers is one more reason this should not be happening. New College of Florida costs #Florida #taxpayers nearly $500,000 to graduate each student, by far the highest cost among the 12 state universities. Compare the cost per student at New College versus USFSM which is 75% less. Those elected officials who support this action are not looking out for the best interest of their constituents. As cited in the article below, House Higher Education Budget Subcommittee Chair Demi Busatta, Coral Gables stated “Current USF students would still be USF students, and current New College students would still be New College students, so the tuition, fees, all of that, would stay the same because we’re not transferring the student to USF from New College, we’re just transferring the facility” however that simply isn't true because those students would then need to commute to the main USF campus which is 90 minutes on a good day and over two hours on average each day. This is not the first attempt at taking over real estate for New College, it is the third starting back in 2025 with a proposed takeover of the JOHN & MABLE RINGLING MUSEUM OF ART FOUNDATION from Florida State University (FSU) by New College of Florida (NCF) which has been brought back again in 2026 and remains a highly contested issue with concerns over NCF's management capacity and risks to the museum's accreditation. I hope you will consider voicing your opinion to those making these decisions. Representatives supporting the transfer of the University of South Florida campus to New College of Florida include: Michael Owen (District 70) Fiona McFarland (District 73) William Bill Conerly (District 72) Danny Nix, CCIM (District 75). In addition to the representatives above, the initiative has support from state-level officials, including Board of Governors Chair Alan Levine. The overwhelming majority of kids who enter foster care have had tough lives before they enter the program, and then they have the added trauma that being in state care brings. There were no set criteria. Instead, we asked ourselves questions like these: Who’s using their…Since it's inception in 2015 Joy Randels has been name to the Power 100 list each year. The Power 1000 is the work of the TBBJ newsroom. We began with a white board and an expansive list of power players across our seven-county region. We held dynamic discussions and argued, and then narrowed it down to who we believe are the 100 most influential names at this point in Tampa Bay business.
There were no set criteria. Instead, we asked ourselves questions like these: Who’s using their money, their connections or their positions to drive business in Tampa Bay? Whose influence extends beyond their own company and their own industry? When the mayors in Tampa, St. Petersburg or Clearwater need something done, who gets the call?
Success does not always mean power. There are far more than 100 successful, high-profile business leaders in Tampa Bay. Some big names didn't make our list. We focused on the people who have the greatest impact and influence on the Tampa Bay business community right now. -
