Kevin Cook shared thisKevin Cook shared thisMy 24 year old son passed away on September 24th in Plano! I’m not writing here for sympathy although people reaching out does make grief feel less lonely. I’m writing because I NEED you to know this fentanyl situation is larger than our government would like you to know. My son struggled with addiction but was clean finally & looking forward to his future finally. He had a great job, great freinds (not users), great outlook on life and he had plans. He was looking forward to getting married one day. He had just put together a budget. His CEO had just talked about a promotion in the near future. In a moment of weakness, he took one pill. One pill that he thought was something else. It ended up being pure fentanyl. 6 times the lethal dose. Please understand they aren’t selling Xanax, OxyContin, Morphine, Adderral …anything sold on the street. It just looks like those pills or edibles. It’s actually fentanyl. Fentanyl is less expensive to make and 50x more addictive then heroine. They don’t measure well. So, some pills have lethal doses. Those that die are considered “Just the price of doing business”. They have so many more users because it’s so addictive & these other countries are trying to kill us. What’s not being said is other countries have a war going on with us that we aren’t fighting. Please educate your children. Since this devastating death of my son, I’ve heard of so many other senseless deaths. One that truly sticks out, a couple of kids going to homecoming. They decided to experiment for the first time. The boy died. The girl barely survived. Please do not turn this into a political post. Life is too short! I BEG YOU … PLEASE BURN THIS INTO YOUR CHILDREN’S BRAIN!!!! YOU DO NOT WANT TO FEEL THIS GRIEF!!! I DIDN’T KNOW THIS LEVEL OF PAIN EXISTED 😢🧡😢 🐘🧡🧡🧡I’d love it if you’d share this to your page in order to get the word out. The more people reached the better 🧡🧡🧡🐘 Please share this post with community groups, speeches to children, schools, YMSL, schools, community leaders, any group you think might be impacted by it. As we approach our 5th wedding anniversary, I reflect on how quickly time has flown. I proposed to her just two weeks after reuniting because of my relentless pursuit ( I am in sales after all) , and when she hesitated, I asked, "Why wait?" Five years will pass before you know it, and here we are. I want to express my gratitude for the sacrifices she has made to support my career. Being a true business partner means being available 24/7 for the advisors we serve. It involves traveling to facilitate workshops, attending training sessions, company events, carrier events, and producer events. While I believe in work-life balance, my wife shares the same mission and actively participates in all functions, understanding this industry as deeply as I do. Deanna is not just my partner in life; she knows my advisors' businesses as well as I do and consistently offers innovative ideas to help them grow. It's rare to find someone so invested in your business, and I am grateful to have her by my side. Her high IQ doesn't hurt either. Starting my career over from scratch at 48 was daunting, filled with hidden doubts about my ability to succeed again. Thankfully, I found the best and most supportive IMO, but more importantly, I had Dee encouraging me to get back on the phone and make those trips to see advisors, even when I lacked motivation. She has become a part of my advisors' families, and without her, I wouldn't be where I am today. Even on those summer Fridays when the outdoors beckon, she reminds me to make that one extra call because you never know the difference it could make. Kevin Cook liked thisKevin Cook liked this✍️ Leadership, Recognition & The Rotten Apple Effect Years ago, while attending an acceleration program in San Francisco, a mentor told me something that stuck: 👉 “If you feel that you should fire someone, you’re probably already late. You should have done it a long time ago.” At the time, it sounded harsh. But over the years, especially in the security industry, where our end product is human expertise, I’ve learned this lesson the hard way. Why this matters: ✅ Teams thrive on trust, recognition, and shared values. ✅ One toxic link- negativity, disengagement, or lack of accountability - can spread quickly. ✅ The “rotten apple” effect erodes morale, weakens trust, and even damages client confidence. Recognition isn’t only about rewarding excellence. It’s also about recognizing when someone no longer belongs. Keeping them for too long doesn’t just drag performance down, it sends a dangerous message: 👉 that mediocrity or toxic behavior is acceptable. In industries like ours, where lives, assets, and reputations rely on trust, one compromised link can impact the entire chain. Quota pressure. Collections. All so the school could afford scissors. 😂 But this meme actually highlights a real hiring issue: people often confuse life experience with relevant professional experience. As recruiters, we spend a lot of time figuring out: * what truly transfers * what’s scalable * and what actually fits the role versus just sounding impressive on paper.
