The project celebrated its 10th year anniversary this year and the team is ending 2023 with a brand new release. Kristof Kloeckner liked thisKristof Kloeckner liked thisI am very happy to share that, following Richard Baird's retirement, I am stepping into the CTO role for Core Enterprise and zCloud, with Simon Murphy taking on the management responsibilities. Richard has built an extraordinary foundation, and I am grateful for the trust, the partnership, and the opportunity to help carry this work forward. For me, this role is about practical technology leadership: helping our clients modernize the platforms that run their businesses, connecting core systems with cloud, automation, AI, and Kyndryl Bridge, and making sure innovation turns into real operational and business value. I have spent 40 years as a technologist and enterprise architect, and I still get excited by hard problems, resilient systems, client outcomes, *patents!* and the chance to work with people who know how to turn complex ideas into working solutions. Most importantly, I do not do any of this alone. Kristof Kloeckner liked thisKristof Kloeckner liked thisSo today, after 40 odd years with IBM (Intern/Fulltime) and Kyndryl I've decided that it's time for a change of pace - so have hung up the coding sheets, Product Release/Project Plans, Management Tasks, Technology Services and the daily 'fun' of life in the IT world. It's been a wild ride from product development for IBM Z, IBM i, IBM OS/2, the introduction of Java and members of the IBM WebSphere family through to helping standup the new Kyndryl Services for IBM Z and IBM i post the IBM GTS spinout. Culminating in Kyndryl releasing the first IBM Z AI Delivery Services. Throughout this time I've had the privilege of working with some of the most talented people in the industry, from across the globe, on all of these topics. It's been 'fun' as I said but now is the time for me to focus on 'other stuff' (like my model railway!). To all my friends and colleagues out there in 'LinkedIn Land' I thank you for the years of engagement and support and wish you well and good luck in the future but remember the future is 'Undiscovered' so our paths may cross again in the future......

At the end of this month, Yannis Ioannidis's 4 year tenure as the ACM President will come to an end and the current Vice President Elisa Bertino will become the new President since she recently got elected to that position 👏💐 Both Elisa and Yannis are database researchers and I have known them for decades. Interestingly, Elisa was a postdoc during 1982-1983 in my very first IBM Research project in San Jose, namely the R* Distributed Database Project founded by Pat Selinger! See the black and white photo of the R* team after Pat got promoted in 1983 and hence was no longer the manager of the team.

Not many companies celebrate 115 years, least of all IT companies. Going from punch cards to quantum computing takes a very specific recipe: Dedication to every client’s success.
