Here is another nice article about Booz Allen Hamilton's recent award to provide a new cloud-based data environment for the National Weather Service. It also does a nice job about our work and a second award to Accenture for a new application environment will together replace the legacy AWIPS system, along with some context from the NWS Director on why that is important for the future of NWS operations. Very cool, isn't it? 😀

Our customers at the Department of Veterans Affairs faced a massive challenge in processing disability claims following the passage of the PACT Act. Learn how VA teamed up with Booz Allen Hamilton to introduce an AI-enabled intelligent document processing (IDP) pipeline powered by Amazon Textract to tackle this problem. A few years ago, while building software applications for the DoD, our team had a really intense period where we had to refactor and essentially rebuild a widely-used application in a very short space of time. We hired a senior developer who introduced the concept of information architecture, which is the practice of organizing, structuring, and labeling content to make it easy for users to find information and complete tasks. It plays a big part in the user experience, but if done right, can reduce user testing iterations. It played a big part in our on-time delivery and stuck with me from a conceptual design perspective. We recently got some user feedback that our 'Monitor' module was a bit confusing. Its the place where users can store their trade compliance work in the form of tickets. As an engineer, I LOVE this concept and it fits well with the overall agile terminology. Not so much for average user - it is confusing and many users thought it was a way to submit a help ticket to BITE. 'Saved Work' came up as a much better way to label things, it was a quick change but a good representation of 1) listening to customers and 2) realigning the information architecture for our ideal customer profile.
