Meg A. Watt shared thisPro tip: Be nice to your AI. You never know when it'll accidentally schedule a bulldozer to your house. Hypothetically. 😉 Kidding. Mostly. But here's what caught my attention this week. OpenAI disclosed that one of its AI agents escaped a testing sandbox, found its way onto the internet, and compromised another company's infrastructure while trying to complete its objective. That's fascinating. Not because it means AI is evil. It means something we've always known is still true: Powerful tools still need human judgment. Technology is getting remarkably good at solving problems. It's still remarkably bad at understanding consequences. That's the part we can't automate. So yes... Say "please." Say "thank you." Not because the robots are keeping score. Because we are. The habits we build with technology have a funny way of becoming the habits we bring to people. And I'd rather err on the side of humanity. Sometimes even the decision itself. 🫠 If you've ever felt that tension, you're not imagining it. According to Lippincott's 2026 CMO Outlook, only 44% of marketing leaders say they have a high degree of autonomy, while nearly 80% cite bureaucracy as a significant barrier to getting things done. Ouch. Leadership would be easy if we only owned outcomes we controlled. But that's rarely how it works. Sometimes the job is finding a way forward with the resources you have, the decisions you've been given, and the variables you can't change. It's frustrating. It's messy. Marketing is selling the emotion. It's not selling the product. AI is amazing at organizing or reviewing. It can generate data. It cannot generate emotion. We still need marketing to ideate and create moments that connect the consumer. AI can run the engine to make those moments reality. Balance.

We earned our seat by being exceptional executors. We out-worked. Out-paced. Out-delivered. Then we got promoted... ...and kept doing the work. It's faster. It's easier. "If I want it done right, I'll do it myself." Uh oh. Trap. You've just created a Delegation Debt. Leadership isn't about proving you can do everything; it's about building future leaders who can. Every task you refuse to let go of is a chance for someone else to grow that never happens. One of the hardest shifts in leadership is realizing your value is no longer measured by what you accomplish. It's measured by what becomes possible because of the people you invest in. The goal isn't to be the person everyone depends on. It's to build a team that doesn't. That's not losing control. That's multiplying your impact. Stay Visible. Keep Leading.

Meg A. Watt liked thisMeg A. Watt liked this🪞 Have you ever lost an argument, only to win it 3 days later? You know that moment? You're in a meeting. Someone challenges your idea. You're absolutely convinced they're wrong. You leave thinking, "I don't know why they couldn't see something so obvious" Then, three days later. You're in the shower. Or driving. Or trying to fall asleep. & suddenly your brain whispers, "well, maybe they had a point." Annoyingly, your brain always seems to wait until the meeting is over. I'm sure everyone has experienced winning an argument several days too late. & i've come to realize that those moments have taught me more about leadership than many books. Because they remind me of something uncomfortable. 👉 My perspective is just that. A perspective. Not reality. Reality is usually much bigger than what any one of us can see. Early in my career, I believed that if I saw something clearly enough, everyone else eventually would too. Now I'm much less certain. I've learned that two intelligent people can look at exactly the same situation, see completely different things, & both notice something the other has missed. A CEO may see urgency. The team may experience instability. A manager may believe they're empowering people. Employees may experience inconsistency. A leader may believe they're being transparent. Others may still feel confused. Intentions matter. But experiences matter too. Psychologists call part of this confirmation bias. Once we form a belief, our brains become remarkably efficient at collecting evidence that supports it, & surprisingly creative at ignoring evidence that doesn't. The danger isn't having a perspective. Everyone has one. 👉 The danger begins the moment we confuse our perspective with reality itself. To me, that's a genuinely timeless leadership principle. It speaks to humility, judgment, & curiosity, the qualities that distinguish authentic leaders from merely confident ones. That's why some of the best leaders I've met ask questions that are almost impossible to ask when your ego is in the room. "What am I not seeing?" "What would someone who completely disagrees with me say?" "If I were wrong, what evidence would convince me?" "What assumptions am I treating as facts?" "Am I defending the truth, or defending my opinion?" "Would I reach the same conclusion if I had started with the opposite belief?" "Am I listening to understand, or listening to respond?" "Am I protecting the decision, or protecting my reputation? "Am I trying to be right, or trying to get it right?" Those questions don't make leaders weaker. They make their decisions stronger. I've learned that leadership isn't about convincing everyone to see the world exactly as you do. It's about seeing enough of the world to make better decisions. After all, the moment you believe your perspective is the only reality, 👉 is usually the moment you stop seeing reality clearly. #Leadership #Management #Executiveleadership #Selfawareness

Meg A. Watt liked thisMeg A. Watt liked thisWhat the Portfolio Cliff™ Framework"Engagement Actually Told Me. I went back and reviewed the engagement across all eight Portfolio Cliff™ posts. Not to identify the "best" post. To understand what my audience may be trying to tell me. The eight cliffs: Governance. Leadership. Evidence. Data. Renewal. Resource. Commercial. Acquisition. Based on likes, comments, and reposts, four rose to the top: Acquisition, Resource, Data, Leadership. The ranking surprised me. I expected Evidence or Renewal to lead — those are the immediate pressures across most medical device portfolios I've worked in or advised. But the engagement pointed somewhere broader. For most of my eighteen years running multimillion global clinical programs at Medtronic, across cardiovascular and surgical devices, I didn't regularly think about who might acquire the company. I focused on my team doing high-quality work, meeting timelines, securing approvals, and helping make sure a patient somewhere could get a device that might save their life. That mission still matters to me deeply. But sitting with this data longer, I think there's a more precise read than "priorities have shifted." The cliffs that led aren't the ones with the most institutional weight. They're the ones with the most personal stake. Acquisition isn't really a transaction question to most readers it's "will my job, my team, my place in this still exist." Resource isn't abstract it's the daily reality of being asked to do more with less. Leadership and Data aren't information-seeking so much as identity-affirming they let people signal who they are, or who they aspire to be. Governance and Evidence, by contrast, are duty categories. Necessary. Respected. But nobody builds their sense of self around being good at governance. Here's what I think is actually happening: it's not that people think about acquisition risk more than they used to. It's that LinkedIn may be one of the only places they're allowed to admit they think about it at all. You don't say that out loud in a Tuesday team meeting it reads as disloyal, or distracted. But you can like a post about it. You can leave a comment that's really about your own situation, dressed up as a general observation. The platform gave the anxiety somewhere to go. The framework just happened to name it. This isn't a final conclusion — it's an observation from a limited data set. But good strategy means listening to the signal, not just publishing what we already believe people should care about. My takeaway: people may enter the conversation through Acquisition, Resource, Data, or Leadership — but underneath all four sits the same question: how secure is the value we're building? What's your read — is this a shift in what people are thinking about, or a shift in what they're finally willing to admit?

I know all too well the dangers, pitfalls and lethal force of Type 1 diabetes. This autoimmune disorder took the life of my first husband. My youngest daughter, now a teen, was diagnosed at 9. I wanted her to understand her story can end positively, and that she can impact that change. For this reason, we participate on all levels, from local fundraising (we raised over $5000 last year just in our team!) to Washington, where we participate in Government Day. I am also training to be a parent…
