DTECH® Day 2: The Grid’s Future Requires More Than Technology On the second day of DTECH®, leaders from NextEra Energy, Inc., Google Cloud, Southern California Edison (SCE), National Grid, SMUD, PECO, and Hawaiian Electric, among others, showed how AI agents, AMI 2.0, and DERMS are reshaping operations. Here’s what stood out: ✨AI can predict grid failures - if you capture the operational data. ✨AMI 2.0 unlocks grid-edge intelligence - if you integrate it with ADMS/DERMS. ✨DERs become flexible assets - if you orchestrate them in real time. The technology exists. The challenge is organizational. Capturing what’s learned, sharing it across teams, and acting on it faster than the competition. While most conferences end when attendees leave the floor, DTECH is taking a different approach. Last week, Ava published "Evaluating the Drivers of PG&E Electricity Rate Growth," a white paper by our regulatory analysts Claire Huang and Michael Quiroz. PG&E electricity rates, service costs, and customer electricity bills have all increased at a rate above inflation for most of the 2010s and 2020s. This paper analyzes PG&E's state and federal regulatory filings from 2012 to 2026 to identify the primary drivers of these increases, and offers recommendations to increase transparency in rate approval processes, strengthen stakeholder oversight of utility spending, and address California's affordability crisis without compromising decarbonization progress. Today, Material Impact's portfolio company Amperesand announced an $80M funding round, one of the largest early-stage financings of 2025 in the industrial energy sector. At its core, Amperesand builds Solid State Transformers. In practice, it is enabling the electrical grid of the future through stability, resiliency, and efficiency - capable of meeting the rapidly changing demands of the AI and electrification age.
