And the best part is that it's a byproduct of our own dogfooding. Over the last few years, we've been solving a problem that every modern GTM team faces: context is everywhere, but it's never in one place. For RevSure itself, we ingest and harmonize data across 23+ GTM systems: CRM, marketing automation, first-party website activity, visitor fingerprinting, LinkedIn, Google Ads, Meta Ads, Bing Ads, Google Analytics, Google Search Console, call recordings, demo interactions, product usage data, email and meeting activity, and much more. For most enterprise teams, bringing all of this together requires 10 to 15 people working across operations, analytics, marketing, sales, and customer success. RevSure does it in weeks. Every lead, contact, account, campaign, meeting, interaction, and product signal gets harmonized, deduplicated, entity-resolved, and connected into a single context graph. But we realized something important. The real value isn't just connecting the data. The real value is what happens when AI can reason on top of that context. I'm not a camera person. Never have been. But this felt necessary, because we’re on the edge of real chaos in GTM, and someone needs to say it out loud. There was a time when B2B GTM was simple. Marketing filled the funnel, sales closed deals, and you could count your tools on one hand. Then things got complicated with more tools, more channels, and more handoffs. By 2020, GTM teams were managing the chaos of tool explosion and fragmented data. Now we're entering something worse. I call it the Agent Apocalypse. Everyone's spinning up agents. Inbound agents, outbound agents, prospecting agents, content agents. An army that never sleeps and never talks to each other. Without shared context, your outbound agent misreads a single click and starts messaging every buyer like they're ready to purchase. More of us than ever are opting out, going fractional, building our own businesses, dreaming of our final escape from the hamster wheel. We are collectively burning out, and here’s why: We’re consistently being handed linear pipeline and revenue goals that are based on a simple spreadsheet calculation… and completely disconnected from the realities of the market. Transitioning a business away from idealistic, magical spreadsheet forecasting can be very challenging, especially if we don’t have years of solid historical data to help make the case. We know that account-driven marketing (or whatever you want to call it) - connecting with the people who make up a buying committee at a specific company that’s a great fit for whatever we’re selling - is the most effective way to build strong relationships that drive meetings, deal acceleration, and higher ACVs… but reporting at the account level requires overhauling attribution models, comp structures and GTM processes, and few of us have the time or grace to slow down for that. We’re building trust and rapport with more people in growing buying committees by crafting memorable, meaningful experiences across many different channels… and then we’re forced to distill that non-linear, multi-channel buying journey down to one first or last touch because that’s the way the board/CEO/CFO is most comfortable thinking about it. We’re tasked with rapidly learning and deploying AI workflows… in a period when AI is changing weekly and it’s easier than ever to misfire and burn trust - buyers are more discerning, highly sensitive to quality and expect thoughtful, human personalization. We’re investing in brand marketing to drive demand because we know that only 5% of our potential buyers are in-market at any given moment, and when pipeline grows thanks to BRAND investment: direct traffic, branded organic search, events, WOM, dark social, etc… we’re frequently told “you’re good at that brand stuff, but you really need to improve on and invest in demand capture. Hack that buying journey.” We know that a strong product and consistent innovation underpins a winning marketing strategy, competitive differentiation and category leadership… and then we’re often told that the roadmap is a year or more behind, but product really has nothing to do with pipeline, and we should be able to manufacture momentum. Maybe it’s time for all of us to put a collective foot down. There is a better, more sustainable way, but we haven’t yet forced B2B to transition from old-school attribution, forecasting, and GTM models that don’t make sense. It’s beyond time.

I could easily spend nearly 100% of my days trying to justify marketing’s existence, and in some companies that seems to be expected. But that’s not the best use of our time. Ever wondered why marketing is usually the only team expected to constantly prove the exact value of every action we take? Finance isn’t asked how the meetings they had or spreadsheets they worked on this week directly contributed to the bottom line. Sales typically doesn’t have to justify how all of their time is spent or prove the impact of each action they take, as long as they hit quota. Product spends weeks, months, sometimes years investing in things that cannot be neatly tied back to revenue. CX doesn’t usually have to justify their time spent as long as retention stays strong and customers are happy — no one’s asking them about magic levers. There are lots of folks opining about what marketing should measure in order to be taken seriously. The fact is, buyers are nearly 70% through their purchasing process before they engage and raise a hand. It’s easiest to track the end of that nonlinear journey and focus on “demand capture,” but everything that came before is what actually put you in the consideration set to begin with. And that’s really hard to track and report on neatly. Sometimes we need to do things now because we have the experience to know they’ll pay off down the line, even when we don’t have historical data to back it up. Even if it’ll take awhile to find out if it moves the needle. When we only invest in the immediately measurable, we’re limiting our impact and devaluing the power of our earned experience.

You've lost the will to live - Finance: "Explain the ROI of brand building." Also, Finance: "No, not like that." - Every sales rep: "My territory is different, the usual playbook won't work here." Every territory: Exactly the same problems - Executive: "We need more organic social media presence." Same executive: Has one follower on Twitter: - Agency: "We'll 10x your pipeline." Mike Phillippi reposted thisMike Phillippi reposted thisOver past 2-3 years I’ve literally met 100s of recruiters, VCs, CEOs, Talent Partners and all of them say being a CMO is incredibly hard and tenure is historically low. Yet, when I look around at all my CMO friends, they are some of the brightest people I’ve ever met in my life. This was re-affirmed over the last week as I saw many of them from the hottest tech companies in the world. So why this sentiment? Are my friends all really morons and I just can’t see it? Definitely not. It comes down to one word that gets mentioned in nearly every conversation: expectations. The expectations for what these superhuman CMOs need to deliver is completely out of whack with how marketing actually works. Marketing is incredibly hard, especially with the amount of things you are expected to know from being a visionary brand builder to knowing all your metrics cold, while delivering fast results on a constrained budget. So when CMOs talk about working for a CEO who “gets’ marketing, it’s not because we (us) want someone who is great at marketing, but it’s because we need people who understand and support that: ✅ There’s no one playbook that will fix it all ✅ You can’t do it without incredible executive support ✅ You can’t do it alone, you need a team (when you are growing) ✅ It takes time ✅Lots of things will go right (because you are smart)… ✅ … and lots of things will go wrong (because so many conditions change in real-time) Marketing is about having more successes than failures Great marketing takes time, it’s not instant or easy The most important is the way a marketing leader shows up every day and continues to try, grind, improve, hustle, lead, all with a smile on her face Marketing can be the most incredible growth driver for a business. But needs the right environment to succeed. #marketing #leadership

Mike Phillippi liked thisMike Phillippi liked thisI fail to understand that why don't we see more CMOs getting transitioned into CEO roles. It is almost always a CRO, a CPO, a CTO, or even a CFO who eventually gets the seat. They earn it. But it is hard to believe the head of marketing is so rarely in that conversation. On paper the CMO looks like the most CEO-shaped person in the building. They spend their careers understanding customers, markets, language, positioning, competition, and timing. Then they get paid to distill all of that for everyone else. They read market shifts before the numbers catch up. They own the story the company tells about itself, which is most of what a CEO does in public anyway. I spend a large part of my week talking to CMOs, and the sharpest ones already feel this ceiling. They can move a market and still struggle to get credit for it in dollars. That is the part quietly weakening their claim. Distance from the dollar. For most of its history, marketing was measured on what it produced, not what it returned. Leads, impressions, brand lift, share of voice. All of it close enough to influence revenue, but too far away to be fully accountable for it. Boards do not hand the P&L to someone who has never carried one. They hand it to the executive who has already been accountable to the dollar, because that accountability is the whole job. But the moment marketing becomes measurable end to end, the CMO’s distance from the dollar disappears. What is left is a leader who can carry a number and explain the story behind it. That is much rarer than a number alone. The CMOs who make the jump will not be the best storytellers in the room. They will be the ones who stopped letting the story sit at a safe distance from the dollar.

I love the brainstorming. The momentum. The creative problem solving. And the “can we pull this off?” moments. I know that probably sounds crazy to some people. But I have realized something about myself.. The environments where other people feel overwhelmed are often the ones where I feel most alive. Looking back it probably explains a lot. .:. Why building communities energizes me. .:. Why I always gravitate towards event planning. .:. Why I love to work with associations. .:. Why start ups make me energized. And why I say yes to ambitious (ie crazy) ideas before I/we have figured out a single detail. Maybe some of us aren’t wired to avoid chaos. Maybe we are wired to create order from it.

Mike Phillippi liked thisMike Phillippi liked thisIt is Day 259 living with cancer and this morning, while dropping Iris off at Harvard-Westlake’s Summer Enrichment Program, something caught my attention. During Iris’s years in public charter elementary school, I regularly noticed Dads walking their children to class before heading to work. Their presence reflected a meaningful shift, as more families shared the responsibilities of parenting while balancing two careers. This week’s drop-off looked different. I found myself noticing far more Moms than Dads. That could simply reflect this particular program, the schedules of individual families, or differences between public and private schools. Whatever the reason, it gave me an opportunity to think more deeply about what children truly need. Over the past nine months, access has become one of the defining themes of my life. Access to outstanding physicians, medical centers, housing, medicine, advanced treatments, clinical trials, and compassionate communities has given me the chance to keep fighting pancreatic cancer. Children deserve their own version of that access and every opportunity opens another door. Summer enrichment programs expand curiosity and music lessons develop creativity. Theater builds confidence and gymnastics teaches discipline. Mathnasium and Kumon learning centers strengthen problem-solving skills and coaches, teachers, mentors, and caring adults often recognize potential long before children recognize it themselves. Every family approaches these opportunities differently. Some parents have financial flexibility but struggle to find enough time. Others gladly give their time while stretching every dollar they have. Where you live opens or closes access. Most are simply doing everything possible to help their children discover who they can become. Watching Iris reminds me why those investments matter. Music, theater, storytelling, and directing have become more than hobbies because she has been encouraged to explore each one. I often joke that she could become a little Lin-Manuel Miranda one day, yet my greatest hope has nothing to do with fame or success. My hope is that she continues to discover what gives her confidence, purpose, and joy. Building Respiris has taught me how to create opportunities for professionals navigating career transitions. Living with cancer has taught me something even more important… to create opportunities for the people we love may become our greatest contribution. Years from now, Iris probably will not remember every rehearsal, every lesson, or every early morning drive. She will remember that someone believed in her enough to keep showing up. Perhaps that is what legacy really looks like. A teacher, coach, mentor, or experience can change the direction of a kid’s life. As parents, we have an obligation to define that opportunity for the next generation. At least that is how I feel about it today. Please change my mind if you feel differently.

One of the communities I'm most grateful to be part of is Bigs & Littles NYC Mentoring. As many of you know, I’ve been a Big for 3+ years and serve on the Junior Board. There’s nothing more rewarding than investing back into your community and into the kids who will one day shape it. In response to GlobalHack V, a civic oriented hackathon. Built a mobile-friendly web application with SMS communication capabilities that makes the ability to research outstanding citations more accessible for people of all income brackets and educational backgrounds while also allowing users to discover pertinent information relating to their citation. Relevant technologies used included Java, Maven, Twilio, Microsoft Azure, Docker, SQL, and Angular.js
