A founder told me his sales team was proud of a slide deck. Forty slides, every feature, every integration. He couldn't tell me in one sentence what outcome the product actually produced for a student. Six months later that deal was still sitting in the same buying committee. EdTech go-to-market in 2026 has become proof-led rather than product-led, with decision makers wanting to know what actually changes for a student in twelve months rather than a feature list. School systems aren't buying software anymore. They're buying a story about outcomes a founder can actually back up. Go-to-market inside LaunchEd works the same way. We don't hand a founder a bigger deck. We hand them a Sandbox result a school system can check for itself. The UP, also known as the Unified Method or the Unified Software Development Process (USDP), was originally a framework from which system processes were to be instantiated. A system process defines the roles that people fulfill, the activities that they perform, and the artifacts that they create to develop, operate, and support one or more computer systems. Over the years the primary focus of IBM Rational has been evolving the RUP.
Whereas the RUP defines a software development lifecycle, the EUP extends it to cover the entire information technology (IT) lifecycle. The EUP extends the RUP to include the operation and support of a system after it is in production and its eventual retirement. Furthermore, because all but the smallest organizations have more than one system, the EUP also handles cross-system enterprise issues such as portfolio management, enterprise architecture, and strategic reuse. Although the RUP defines a very good software development lifecycle, it is only a start: you need the EUP to address the entire IT lifecycle and to provide a mechanism for true IT governance of RUP projects.

Instructional Designers were not originally hired to produce courses. They were engaged to influence performance and business outcomes. AI is not disrupting that purpose. If anything, it is reminding us of it. Across organizations, leaders are beginning to ask more thoughtful questions: • What specific performance gap are we addressing? • What measurable change should follow this intervention? • How will we evaluate impact beyond completion rates? This shift is not a threat to the profession. It is an invitation to elevate it. Designers who will thrive in this next phase: • Think in systems, not isolated modules • Design for real-world transfer, not passive consumption • Speak the language of business outcomes, alongside learning science AI is unlikely to replace Instructional Designers. However, it may replace practices that were never fully aligned to impact. And perhaps, that is a constructive reset for all of us. #FutureSkills #LearningConsulting #AIandDesign #WorkplaceLearning
