The meeting before the collapse wasn’t loud. It wasn’t dramatic. It was quiet, clinical, and terrifying. A room full of smart people realizing that if the numbers were right and they were a single 25% move could erase the entire firm. That’s the moment portrayed so chillingly in Margin Call. Not a story about villains twirling mustaches, but about pressure. Fear. Incentives. Moral trade-offs made at 2 a.m. when the stakes are measured in millions of lives, not just millions of dollars. What strikes me most isn’t the math. It’s the question underneath it. When the system cracks… When survival is on the line… When telling the truth could cost everything… What do leaders do? This wasn’t about intelligence. It wasn’t about credentials. It was about character under pressure. Boardroom decisions don’t stay in boardrooms. They ripple through families, pensions, communities, and entire economies. And when incentives reward speed over responsibility, truth becomes inconvenient and dangerously negotiable. It wasn’t just a job. It was his passion. His dream. His proving ground. He worked full time. He went to school at night. He carried responsibility far heavier than his title suggested. And then something remarkable happened. A senior leader took the time to listen. Not to a report. Not to a metric. To a person. That single conversation led to opportunity. To belief. To investment. To a scholarship. To a future that suddenly expanded. That’s the leadership lesson. As organizations grow, leaders naturally rise higher, more strategy, more scale, more distance. But with every level gained, there’s a risk of losing touch with the very people who make the organization work. The front line is not the bottom of the pyramid. It’s the foundation. These are the people who shape the customer experience. They carry the brand in real time. They turn vision into reality every single day. He is incredibly intentional in the way he invests in his players, both on and off the field, and he’s surrounded by an outstanding coaching staff and school leadership team that supports the program so well. Yesterday’s championship was the result of countless hours of hard work, preparation, and commitment over the last year. It was incredibly rewarding to see it all pay off. Way to go Knights!
