Todd Parsons shared thisAI is already helping marketers move faster in campaign execution, creative production, and workflow management. But the opportunity I find most interesting is AI-mediated product discovery, which will change the game of delivering more relevant shopping experiences to consumers. As these capabilities rapidly develop, marketers can think more deeply about the human side of advertising: the mechanics of creating more useful conversations between me and GPT 5.6, showing up in them with perfect context, and finding new ways for paid and organic to work together. Of course, all of these are elevated with commerce data. Todd Parsons shared thisFor my friends in France (and those with translations turned on), I recently had the pleasure of speaking with Vincent Thobel at The Media Leader FR about AI and what it will take for the technology to deliver on its full potential. What's remarkable is how quickly the conversation has evolved since our prior interviews. Just a year ago, much of the discussion centered on whether large language models would have a meaningful role in advertising. Today, we're already seeing the emergence of advertising opportunities in AI-powered environments like ChatGPT. By this time next year, I expect the focus will be on how merchants and brands scaling these new experiences. Every company is talking about being AI-first. At Criteo, our approach remains grounded in the trust we've built with our clients and our ability to help them activate their data in an increasingly complex ecosystem. Our clients rely on us to help them discover new customers, introduce consumers to products for the first time, and drive business growth in ways that enhance the customer experience. We aim to do that across every channel, including emerging AI-driven environments. Today, we're excited to have brought more than 2,000 brands onto ChatGPT Ads through Criteo, and we're continuing to expand access through our self-service platform, GO. AI is undeniably powerful as an emerging advertising channel. But it can't overshadow the biggest opportunity I see for our industry, which is to move beyond thinking channel by channel. Instead, we always stay lazer focused on the customer - where they start their journey, where they are when we reach them, how they relate to a brand, and what action we want to inspire next. AI won't change the importance of those fundamentals. It will simply give us special ways to deliver on them. My answer: a leopard Because it’s agile and able to go everywhere fast. Funny as it may sound that's exactly the thinking behind GO: onboard in minutes, automate cross-channel outcomes across open web, social, and now ChatGPT...all over a vast expanse of commerce intelligence. The beauty of GO is we're not trying to push marketers toward a particular channel or saying use this or that data. We simply find them the best results wherever they happen. Todd Parsons shared thisEven with the Cannes heat wave, I had a great discussion aboard the Criteo yacht with Brian Wieser, CFA, Joy Howard, and Tom Triscari, hosted with the Advertising Economic Forum, Madison and Wall, and Back Market on the future of performance measurement. AI is accelerating the convergence of paid media, organic discovery, search, and commerce. To win, brands will need to connect these experiences into a unified consumer journey rather than managing them in silos. As we noted during the panel, both brand and performance marketing are increasingly becoming outcome-oriented, and incrementality should evolve from a measurement exercise into the operating model itself. Marketers need the ability to turn fragmented signals into confident decisions and understand what is truly driving incremental growth. The best part of the panel was the opportunity to engage with fellow leaders who are pushing the industry forward, challenging assumptions, and working toward practical solutions. They compare. They make decisions through conversation. This means performance marketers can't wait for demand to show up at the bottom of the funnel. They need to influence how demand is formed, have the tools to create it earlier on in the journey, and match these to trusted measurement and outcome disciplines. Also, read til the end for a great Criteo win 👀 For years, the StockX finance and marketing teams lacked a shared framework for optimizing the company’s largest non-cost-of-goods-sold expense: Ad spend. As Ellyn put it, “We were managing our biggest expense with a lot of guesswork. Outside of a couple internal Google Shopping incrementality tests, every other channel ran on static budgets. And for channels like YouTube, we had no way to see beyond last click conversions, so we were relying on limited attribution outputs and marketing’s gut feel to decide where dollars went.” In 2024, StockX brought Haus and for the first time, Ellyn’s finance team could see a non-clicks-based view of where ad dollars were driving incremental Gross Merchandise Value (GMV), where they weren’t, and how far they could push each channel before returns decayed. THE RESULT: iROAS improved by 41% and Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) grew 8.6%, proving to Ellyn and the team that optimizing to incrementality could drive P&L-level outcomes and built the trust needed for even bolder swings. Other brands have really low market share in the real world, and really terrible SEO... but GREAT AI visibility. 💡 Finding the over-performers and focusing on how they write their blogs, what their branded presence looks like on Reddit, and which publications mention them, can help you quickly identify strategies that are likely to be way more impactful than if you just studied all the citations more broadly. 💡 ----- (self-plug if you're still reading) ----- Until last month, this is something we used to do by hand at Petra Labs, because it's a really hard problem to solve. How do you get revenue for private companies? How do you measure organic performance? How do you account for the fact that different prompts might have different values? It was hard work, but we did it by hand because of how great the insights could be. But, it being "hard" didn't stop Shreya Singh. She's spent the last few weeks building the AEO industry's first ever "performance index" at scale. Maybe that’s because every year has been so full, so fast and honestly so fun that I sort of stopped counting. I’m pleased as punch to say that I’ve been promoted to editor-in-chief of the good ship AdExchanger, alongside Anthony Vargas, who just made managing editor. Next week I officially begin my MBA at Duke University - The Fuqua School of Business, as a Forté Foundation Fellow and I could not be more excited. Durham is a big change of scenery after NYC and Vancouver, and I'm genuinely looking forward to exploring Bull City. Rewinding a bit — I left Criteo back in April, after 2.5 years surrounded by people who are collaborative, ambitious, and encouraging. That combination is exactly why I was able to learn the retail media industry in such great depth and breadth. A special thank you to Lauren Gabel, Malee Mabandit, and Victoria Tran — three incredible women leaders who were true role models to me, leading with confidence and empathy in a way that shaped how I think about leadership myself. And to Malee Mabandit and Olivia Sears, who on top of that wrote my recommendations during a pretty intense application process, all while I was juggling a full workload — your support, emotional and otherwise, meant more than you know. It's a big part of why Forte's mission of advancing women into leadership resonates with me so strongly. To a new chapter, go Blue Devils!
