Both sides taught me something uncomfortable: you polish what you think gets read. The recruiter, the hiring manager, and the ATS read something else entirely, and almost no one gets to see that gap. This year I earned two AI certificates. But a certificate isn't proof you learned something. Building with it is. So I stopped studying AI and used it to build the thing I wish I'd had. Yong Sohn shared thisReal Madrid C.F. just hired José Mourinho, and the entire debate is about whether he can still coach. Wrong debate. That squad was never short of talent. It has some of the best players alive. Competence was never the missing piece. What was broken was the standard. What gets tolerated. What losing feels like on Monday morning. You don't fix that with a better tactician. You fix it with someone strong enough to walk in, say this is not acceptable, and hold that line while everyone hates him for it. Twenty years ago he called himself the #SpecialOne. Everyone heard arrogance. I hear a man telling you exactly how much weight he is prepared to carry. That is what Real bought. I think it's the right call. And it's what we keep getting wrong in companies. We have never had more competent people. Teams stacked with talent, still losing. And every time, we answer it with another strategy, another reorg, another tool. Because a new plan is easy. A person who sets a standard and refuses to move is not. I've been on those teams. I used to think we needed a better plan. We didn't. We needed one person who wouldn't accept what we had all quietly agreed to accept. Now competence is about to be free. AI will hand you the analysis, the options, the plan, endlessly, for nothing. It will never tell you what is unacceptable. That part still needs a human being willing to stand there. Colombia vs Switzerland. 0-0 through extra time, then penalties. World-class athletes, 12 yards from goal, missing. Because now I know what they were really up against. Not the goalkeeper. The monster the mind builds in the seconds before you strike the ball. If I miss this, the whole country, the rest of my life... You're not kicking a ball. You're kicking every story that hasn't happened yet. Roberto Baggio knows this better than anyone. 1994 World Cup final, 0-0, down to penalties. The best player of the tournament stepped up and sent it over the bar. Thirty years later he still says it's a wound that never closes. We carry the same monster into smaller rooms. The meeting where the words don't come. The moment we freeze and quietly fear that this is the real us. Which makes me wonder about all our talk of #AI. An AI can give you the score, the win probability. It can even write this post. But it has never stood at the spot with its heart in its throat. It has never had something to lose. Maybe that's why we watch. Not for the result, but for the human carrying that weight in real time, in front of the whole world. Yong Sohn shared thisAn algorithm gave Cabo Verde a 3% chance. It couldn’t tell you what that 3% meant to half a million people finally getting their shot on the world stage. That’s the part no model sees. For ninety minutes, the score isn’t decided by GDP, or history, or who you know. It’s decided by what happens inside the lines, today. One of Cabo Verde’s players said it better than I could: “Once you’re on the pitch, a lot of things become equal.” Equal. That word is rarer than we admit. In 2002, Senegal opened the World Cup against France, the defending champions and the country that had once colonized them. No tricks, no controversy. Senegal won, 1-0. For ninety minutes, the old imbalance didn’t matter. Same field, same rules, eleven against eleven. And the world couldn’t look away. I’ve spent much of my own life waiting for that kind of fair shot. The one not decided by who you knew, what passport you held, or which email landed in someone’s inbox. Most of life doesn’t work that way. The field, for ninety minutes, does. Maybe that’s why the world stops for this. Not because we love the sport. Because we’re all still waiting for our turn on a field that’s actually fair. Yong Sohn posted thisYesterday, mid-call, I caught myself nodding and saying "totally, that makes sense" while my eyes were already three tabs away. My mouth was still in the meeting. The rest of me had left ten minutes earlier. I used to think the problem was time. Not enough hours, not enough bandwidth. Lately I think that's the wrong unit. #AI models don't run out of time. They run out of tokens, a fixed budget of attention they can spend on any single answer. Once it's spent, the rest is just noise dressed up as a response. Maybe we're not that different. We don't run out of time before the day ends. We run out of #tokens before the meeting does. Before the conversation gets real. Before the person in front of us gets the version of us that's actually paying attention. The clock ticking has never scared me much. What quietly scares me is something else: the amount of real attention I have left for a problem, a person, a moment seems to shrink every year, while the number of things asking for it only grows. If attention is the real currency, what are you spending yours on right now? That shift was clear in Hangzhou last week, where we brought two partner-led moments together in one day. First, #LevelUp with LINGXING explored what global growth means in the AI era — moving beyond traffic, tools, and operations toward brand building, customer understanding, and scalable growth. Then, Amazon Ads #PartnerDay China continued the journey in a very practical way: Sponsored Ads foundations, DSP adoption, measurement, video, creative, AI, and full-funnel growth. Two events. One bigger signal. Global growth does not happen through one channel, one campaign, or one market playbook. Had such a great chat with Vivien Lin! She brought so much wisdom and vivid insights to the conversation: 1. We're trying to work with our users, when they make money we make money. We try not to stand on the opposite. 2. From the start we decided to exit China market. We never touched US users. It's all because we are quite self-disciplined and self-regulated. 3. We consider whether this product or whether a feature can truly solve the problem for the user. 4. From 2018, 2019 is always put our top priority to think about how we bring more new user to the crypto industry. It's not like competing the existing user with other exchange. 5. Ideally, the final product should be you don't need to worry about what functions sit in what page. You just go to the AI or the AI assistant to tell him what you want. 6. The difference in the roadmap between crypto and traditional finance is rooted in how the industry got originated. For traditional finance, banking and payment that's naturally where finance comes from than lending than trading. At crypto, the very first need where the industry originated is mining. 7. I think, we are still in a very precious time window especially for exchange it to become a sort of mega platform in near future. 8. My suggestion is always be open minded - open minded to the technology, business model and even all those new ideas. 9. My suggestion to everyone, even if you are a legal, you are a product manager or you are in the operation team, is to study programming, learn how to code. 10. The slides always tell the good stories but you need to get down to the details to understand what's happening. 11. Before all those regulations put into place there has to be someone familiar with how possible the regulation is going to be implemented in the future and we can get prepared beforehand. 12. Without one major hack exchange cannot be a mature exchange. 13. If I know what they are doing I can read their code, I can get a very direct sense about the quality of the project instead of really looking at the powerpoint. Rather than being stuck in either camp, Roku embraced a hybrid approach facilitated by Quiq’s flexible AI for CX framework and platform. By using Quiq to handle technical maintenance, orchestration, explainability and scalability, Roku retained full control over their CX roadmap and customisation, while gaining the ecosystem and resources to support and enhance their small team.
