Broadcom's VMware licensing changes have created new challenges for organizations managing cost, compliance, and long-term infrastructure strategy. In one of our latest client success stories, see how a leading telecommunications provider worked with Anglepoint to: • Demonstrate full vSphere compliance with a defensible Effective License Position (ELP) • Upgrade approximately 5,500 hosts to reduce version-related risk • Successfully navigate an active Broadcom audit • Avoid a forced VMware Cloud Foundation migration, preserving an estimated $60M–$75M in potential cost avoidance When vendor strategies change, having accurate licensing data and a clear compliance position can make all the difference. In 2025, PowerDNS achieved validation for two major telco cloud reference implementations: 🔹 The Project Sylva – an open-source initiative led by Linux Foundation Europe, focused on building a telco-grade cloud and edge computing framework tailored to the needs of European network operators. 🔹 Broadcom VMware Ready for Telco Cloud – a certification program that ensures interoperability and optimization of applications and network functions on the VMware Telco Cloud platform. These certifications confirm that PowerDNS solutions integrate seamlessly into standardized cloud environments, giving telecom operators the confidence that our products can be deployed, operated, and scaled reliably across diverse platforms. This significantly reduces integration complexity and saves valuable time and costs for both vendors and operators. 💡 And if your environment is anything but vanilla – don’t worry. Our Professional Services team has a proven track record of delivering robust, high-performance DNS deployments even in the most complex, decades-old infrastructures. Many organisations are facing the same challenge: applications need more memory, but server refresh budgets remain under pressure. Traditionally, the answer has been simple. Buy more RAM. The problem is that memory is often one of the most expensive & constrained components in a server, and upgrading hardware across an entire estate can quickly become costly. VMware Cloud Foundation introduces "Advanced Memory Tiering", allowing organisations to extend memory capacity by intelligently using high-speed storage as an additional memory tier. The result? • Increase VM density without adding physical servers • Delay expensive hardware refresh cycles • Improve infrastructure utilisation • Support growing application demands with existing investments At a time when every IT investment is being scrutinised, extracting more value from existing infrastructure is often the fastest route to reducing costs. Sometimes the smartest infrastructure upgrade is getting more from the hardware you already own.

Rethinking your virtualization strategy? You're not alone. Since Broadcom's acquisition of VMware, IT teams everywhere have been forced into a decision cycle they didn't ask for — licensing resets, per-core pricing jumps, and shrinking flexibility. Analysts have even predicted Broadcom could lose over a third of VMware's customer base in the coming years. That's where Platform9's Private Cloud Director comes in. Built by a team of former VMware engineers, Platform9 gives infrastructure teams a familiar, enterprise-grade private cloud — without the cost and complexity of the platform they're trying to leave behind. Familiar VM management — VMware admins can hit the ground running with minimal retraining All the features that actually matter — VM high availability, live migration, dynamic resource rebalancing, distributed networking, and multi-tenancy, out of the box Protect what you've already built — deep integration with your existing servers and enterprise storage, no forced hardware refresh A real migration path, not a leap of faith — vJailbreak, Platform9's free migration tool, moves VMs from VMware in weeks instead of months VMs + containers, one platform — built-in Kubernetes support means you're not managing two separate stacks Organizations are already using it to cut costs dramatically compared to public cloud and legacy licensing — all while keeping the operational patterns their teams already trust. If you're evaluating what comes next after VMware, Platform9 is worth a serious look. platform9.com #VMwareAlternative #PrivateCloud #Virtualization #ITInfrastructure #CloudComputing #Kubernetes

VMware vSphere 8 reaches End of General Support on 11 October 2027 and this is the perfect time to upgrade to the full stack VCF. Contact us if you want an assessment to plan for this transition?
Still running VMware vSphere 8? Your next infrastructure decision may be bigger than an upgrade. VMware vSphere 8 reaches End of General Support on 11 October 2027, leaving organisations with important decisions to make about their future platform strategy. For many IT leaders, this isn't simply a licensing conversation. It's an opportunity to reassess how to adopt VMware Cloud Foundation and plan the transition more than nine months ahead of the End of General Support date, supporting future business, operational and financial objectives. The challenge is that this transition requires planning. Organisations should already be considering: • Future infrastructure and cloud strategy • Security and compliance requirements • Licensing and commercial impact • Hardware and storage dependencies • Migration complexity, timescales and risk The earlier these conversations start, the more options remain available. At Trustmarque Ultima, we help organisations assess their current estate, understand the implications of the transition, and build a roadmap that aligns technology decisions to business outcomes. If VMware is part of your environment, now is the time to start planning. Book your complimentary VMware Review with our team. Still running VMware vSphere 8? Your next infrastructure decision is likely bigger than an upgrade. vSphere 8 reaches End of General Support on 11 October 2027, putting organisations in a position where future platform strategy needs to be addressed sooner rather than later. For many IT leaders, this goes far beyond licensing. It’s a chance to reassess how and when to adopt VMware Cloud Foundation, and to plan the transition well ahead of the End of General Support date, aligning technology change with business, operational and financial priorities. The reality is that this transition requires structured planning. Organisations should already be thinking about: • Future infrastructure and cloud strategy • Security and compliance requirements • Licensing and commercial impact • Hardware and storage dependencies • Migration complexity, timescales and risk At Trustmarque Ultima, we help organisations assess their current estate, understand the implications of the transition, and build a roadmap that aligns technology decisions to business outcomes. If VMware is part of your environment, now is the right time to start planning. Book your complimentary VMware Review with our team. 2027 is closer than it seems. Broadcom has announced that the general support end date for vSphere 8 is October 11, 2027. While this may appear to be ample time for many organizations, the reality is different. For environments with hundreds or thousands of VMs, a comprehensive virtualization strategy review, hardware refresh, storage, networking, backup, disaster recovery, and application testing can result in a re-platforming effort that takes 12 to 18 months or even longer. Whether you decide to continue with VMware Cloud Foundation or explore alternatives, the critical decision lies not in the platform selection, but in the timing of your planning. Infrastructure projects seldom become easier with delay.
