Mother’s Day was a bit different this year. Yes, I asked for my card and some flowers. But more importantly, I asked my husband for one thing: Please don’t make me plan anything. (Bonus: please don’t ask me what you should plan.) If you know me, that probably sounds strange. I’m usually the operator. The planner. The person coordinating schedules, solving problems, making decisions, thinking three steps ahead. At work, at home, in life. I genuinely like building things and making things happen. But I didn’t realize how tired my brain was from constantly carrying the invisible mental load. Where should we go? What do we need from the grocery store? Did someone clean the kitchen? Did I fill out the cyber insurance form? What is engineering working on this week? What should our upgraded messaging be? Did we respond to that customer? My husband jokes about kitchen island being the “magic counter” because it somehow always ends up clean. The truth is, there’s usually someone quietly making the magic happen. This year, the best gift wasn’t flowers or the picnic. It was getting to sit back and just be. I spent the day with my daughters and family. I silenced Slack and email notifications, which I almost never do, and just appreciated life for a minute instead of trying to optimize it. It reminded me of something simple: Sometimes the people who are used to carrying the plan also need someone else to carry it for a day. And that can feel like a very big gift.
Happy belated Mothers Day!! It was so great to see you and meet your girls (and your dad and Emmy). You are truly blessed! Love you tons and look forward to spending more time with you next time, whenever that is…hopefully soon! ❤️❤️
Oh my those little babies have grown so much since I first saw them. Where does that time go?
I have never seen you happier and more complete. I still remember you asking how I did that work/life balance all those years ago when my boys/young men now, were little. So proud of you Dana and Daniel Wolf.
Happy belated Mother’s Day Dana! So well said - the best gift is to appreciate the “now” moment, especially with your beautiful girls. 💐
Preach! So glad you had a beautiful Mother’s Day! You more than earned it! 🌺
The most important part of asking not to have to specify what you want is being happy with what you get.
That invisible mental load is heavy, so it is great you finally got a day to just be.
Uf, amen!
💯 Dana Wolf !
The love shines brightly in all three of your faces! Dana, you look totally relaxed and beautiful 💗
