Next week is the first VC Platform Summit I'll have missed in a decade! This community has been with me from the very beginning of my career in VC (and really professional and personal life). The knowledge sharing but more importantly the friendships built over 10+ years are super special. Coming back to the VC/PE platform world this past year on a fractional basis (after five years on the startup/service provider side, still a proud sponsor of VC Platform though), I've been struck by how much has changed: - Tech: AI, agents, and supercharged workflows have genuinely altered the job - Expectations: Summit production has hit wedding-caliber. The bar keeps rising. - Elevation: Platform and Operating Partners are getting the recognition they've earned - Scope: Somehow the number of hats keeps multiplying And how much hasn't: - Role ambiguity: What's actually in scope? What does success look like? How do you measure ROI? - Resource constraints: Do more with less has been the norm since day one - Shiny object syndrome: The new thing is always calling. Like him, I'm in full dad mode: 7-week newborn at home plus a toddler I'm chasing so see you next year (I hope!), VC Platform crew.
