Brett Jansen’s Post

What are we doing here LinkedIn? Honestly. Not only is this post completely fictional but it appears to be a bot account. Yet, look at the engagement? And it was only posted a day ago? I am not mad to see other actual creators, thought leaders and writers on this platform get crazy engagement - community over competition, am I right? But it’s the lack of engagement for the ones showing up here every day, with an actual strategy, a pov and that take time to build their audience that you give no love to. This crap has to be so defeating for anyone that genuinely wants to build something meaningful on this platform. YouTube and TikTok are looking pretty good right now 👀👀👀👀

There’s a difference between the impressions you get and the impression you make. People overvalue the first one, and dramatically undervalue the second.

Who cares? Having the right people engage and see our stuff is way more important then the amount...

Not only does it feel like the needle hasn’t moved much with relation to the messaging LinkedIn has shared regarding cracking down on agentic/bot posting and AI written content but, I think the frustration many people feel is compounded by the fact that LinkedIn has effectively become the gatekeeper of professional relationship-building for many. Ultimately, cracking down on these posts is probably bad for their business if people are engaging with it. It’s up to the content consumer to impact the change they want to see. Easier said than done though.

My honest opinion is that no one understands the algo, anyone who says they do are just lying. I’ve had months of low engagement then poof out of nowhere my posts start flying. Just this week one of my posts hit 25k impressions with less than 20 likes where I’ve seen other creators on here get that many impressions on a post with 1k likes and like a hundred comments. It makes 0 sense, it’s a black box. Best you can do is post your best content and continuously show up and expect nothing and also post across other platforms

Brett Jansen: Thanks for this post. I've been thinking a lot about the impact of AI on Internet culture and what it means to be a creator. One of the things I'm starting to sense is that the rise of AI-generated content is leaving people unsatisfied and hungry for something deeper. This hunger is expressed in how people respond to small things: A comment that someone has put some thought into, or a framework that isn't cookie cutter. That doesn't meant that the content isn't aided by AI, many people are using it (so do I). But despite this, the content feels 'real'. I've been writing online since the beginning of the blogging era. In some respects I feel like we might be coming full circle. When I first started blogging I found immediately that I became part of a community of people who were sharing their insights and knowledge, doing the hard work of thinking about what they were writing and providing value. There was no way that, at the time, we could compete with traditional media, but that wasn't the goal. Instead it was about building a tribe. We're still looking for those connections. I feel connections are valuable whether it's seen by 10 or 10,000 people.

LinkedIn has been great and incredibly frustrating at times since I started posting consistently a few months ago. It’s impossible to tell which posts the algorithm is going to push forward and then a month or two ago it decided to completely kill my reach for no apparent reason. Thankfully, it seems to be coming back but the whole thing is confusing and I’ve given up trying to figure it out. In the meantime, I’m continuing to post and meet new cool people!

high comments / reposts like that are a common sign that they're paying an engagement pod. It's a fake post.

personally youtube has always been my favorite. it's where I've built the strongest/most loyal audience. Linkedin is a strongggg runner up, which is why I'm here lol but they gotta get rid of these bots

With the most powerful tools in the history of technology at our fingertips why am I not surprised at the sheer laziness a large amount of ppl demonstrate here on this platform falling for a silver bullet, secret sauce that a one pager promises to provide…

LinkedIn what’s the plan here? Are these accounts showing up too quickly to delete? Do we need to beef up protection?
