It's the journey, not the destination, that makes it all worth while...
It's always fascinated me how we can become OBSESSED with a goal - ending up on a RELENTLESS pursuit of achieving or securing something we think is going to make us feel worthwhile, SUCCESSFUL, accomplished, even loved.
The pursuit for my precious MBA certificate, the little slip of paper that "proves" I'm smart, qualified, that I know what I'm talking about in my field was one such obsession.
But a pass was never going to be enough either and for a whole year my life was consumed around achieving DISTINCTION, being in the top 1% of MBA graduates - the BEST of the BEST.
Since graduation the precious certificate has laid untouched in the envelope it was presented in, in a plastic bag in my spare room full of shoes, dresses and Uni books that haven't been glanced at since November.
Whilst I was on that crazy race, my GOAL to write a dissertation fit for publication, I didn't realise I was knocking myself ILL in the process.
My MENTOR told me - " Once you've got it, you'll never think about it again. The journey is always more exciting than the DESTINATION. And if you don't get your distinction then in a few months it won't matter because a new JOURNEY will already have begun."
I thought he was CRAZY, he thought I was CRAZY... He was right, on both counts!
