Gill Baird, MBA shared thisIn business it’s not uncommon to see companies post the highs, celebrate the wins and lead with the best bits in the showcase of the year online - but that’s not always the full story. For me, I’ve always appreciated it when entrepreneurs have been open, honest and transparent about the challenges, what they learned from them and how they turned things around - it’s one of the reasons I wrote about change management in my first dissertation - and also when I learnt that as much as most employees and managers say they want change, going through that process is more often than not filled with resistance and its so important to stay consistent in moving forward and avoid U turns and roundabouts as much as possible when the roads to change get rocky. My team at Cosmedicare were right on board with our strategic change process, involved in Scenario Planning in it options (if you don’t know how to do this, get to know - my academic mentor Prof George Burt gave me the gift that keeps on giving you hen he taught me how to do this all those years ago - and partially because of that exposure and involvement my team stayed committed and tough as nails emotionally when some major changes in our processes and policies were needed. You can see from this years numbers, it all went to plan - and that’s when we celebrated in style! The latest financial results for the year ending March 2026 show turnover increased from £4.46 million to £5.69 million - growth of more than 27% - as demand for private healthcare continues to rise. The business also moved from a post-tax loss of £257,000 to an EBITDA of £1.2 million. Cosmedicare has also taken a significant strategic step in securing its long-term future, with the business set to complete the purchase of its Livingston hospital site in July after exercising its right to buy the property. Separately, the company recently secured planning approval for a multi-million expansion of the Livingston hospital, creating additional clinical capacity to support future growth. Gill Baird, MBA liked thisGill Baird, MBA liked thisProof I do actually work with men… 😉 Yesterday we hosted our first Diamond Boardroom Breakfast in the beautiful Morgan Room at The Ivy, and what a brilliant morning it was. A huge thank you to Campbell Ure - Making More With My Clients from The Alternative Board Glasgow for facilitating the session and introducing our Diamond members to the peer board concept. The morning was very much a pilot to explore how this style of strategic boardroom discussion could complement our Diamond membership, and it certainly gave us plenty to think about. There were some brilliant conversations, fresh perspectives shared and some really valuable takeaways around the table. A big thank you to our Diamond members who came along, embraced the format and were so open in sharing their experiences and challenges. It’s always a privilege to watch brilliant women support one another in such an honest and thoughtful way. Thank you also to Suzanne Gilchrist and the team at The Ivy Glasgow for looking after us so well. The Morgan Room was the perfect setting for a morning of strategic conversation (and excellent grub and coffee!). Sadly, I completely forgot to get a group photo (🤦🏼♀️), so instead here’s a snap of Campbell and me in the gorgeous Morgan Room. Now to reflect on the feedback and explore what happens next.

Yes, the food was incredible, The Ivy's Morgan Room was absolutely beautiful and we were surrounded by talented, ambitious women doing amazing things. But it felt like there was something more. Maybe it was the coming together of different communities. Maybe it was the openness in the room. Maybe it was hearing the successes of women from completely different industries but finding common ground between them. Whatever it was, there was a real magic in the connections being made. As I looked around the room, I saw women sharing ideas, making introductions, offering support, celebrating one another and having the kinds of conversations that remind you why community matters so much. A huge thank you to Paula Wingate , founder of Influential Minds and soon-to-launch Unleash Your Fire, for sponsoring the evening and for bringing so many wonderful women from her own community along. The blend of our two communities created something really special and expanded the conversation in ways I don't think any of us expected. Thank you to Carol Jackson , founder of Ellis Gin, for providing our delicious Alice in Wonderland welcome cocktail. If you've never tried it, it's an exclusive Ellis Gin cocktail at The Ivy and it is every bit as good as it sounds. Thank you to Suzanne Gilchrist and the team at The Ivy for making the entire experience feel effortless. From helping bring the evening together behind the scenes to tying 24 diamond bows onto champagne glasses (a task I can confidently say I would have made a complete ar** of!), your support meant so much. Thank you also to Lavender Blue for the stunning floral displays. The room looked blooming perfect. Our guest speaker, Tracey McNellan , Owner & Editor of Scottish Woman Magazine, shared so much wisdom around leadership, visibility, personal branding and building a career with impact. The conversation was honest, insightful and packed with nuggets that I know many of us will be thinking about for a long time. Every guest left with a copy of Scottish Woman Magazine and I'm delighted that The Glow Club (by Glasglow Girls Club) will soon become a distributor of the magazine from our new city centre home. And finally, thank you to Sherrie Higgins for capturing the evening so beautifully. Some of the highlights feature in this post. Less than 24 hours later, I already know new introductions have been made, emails have been exchanged, ideas for collaborations are being explored. And that's exactly why we do what we do. At its heart, the Glow Club has always been about community. Creating spaces where women can come together, feel supported, be inspired and realise they're not building their businesses alone. Last night felt like a wonderful reminder of that. To every woman who joined us – a heartfelt thank you for being part of it. 💎

Firstly, Scotland has made the World Cup finals opening game in Paris v the mighty Brazil. Secondly, I've just sold Sports Division, my life's work, 14 years on from selling gutties from the back of a van, to Europe’s biggest independent sports retailer employing 7,500 people. I've been very lucky. I'm 37 with two small kids and very large cheque in the bank. What could possibly go wrong? Of course we're going to Paris, boys’ trip, best seats in the house courtesy of Adidas. I was their biggest customer in Europe. First stop once we land is the pub, of course. Now I know little bit about football, Willie Haughey says I know less than that, but the thrill of going with your mates to support Scotland taking on Brazil is intoxicating. And so was the pub. We were having a great time, the singing, the jokes, the sheer positive anticipation, and as the pints were sunk, the bravery increased. Of course we have a chance against Brazil. It's getting time to leave for the stadium, just one more. We’ve really got to go now. Just one more. We must must go now! No, let's just stay here and give the best tickets in the house away, let's watch the game in the pub. The Optical Express folks who got the tickets must have had a ball. We all stayed in the pub and had a great time, but I don't remember the score. Anyhow, on we go into Paris to a party at the Buddha bar organised by a guy I barely knew called David Yarrow Photography Ltd. What happens in the Buddha bar stays in the Buddha bar. The most important outcome of that night was my friendship with Yarrow. Fast forward to summer 2026. Scotland have qualified for the World Cup. Who’s in our group? The mighty Brazil, aw naw! David and Jane Yarrow are throwing a party in Boston with the proceeds going to Street Soccer Scotland, founded by the incomparable David Duke MBE. David taught us at the Hunter Foundation the importance of football to help people with homelessness, addiction, and facing other tough realities, re-connect into society. Football is the catalyst that makes it work. Before a ball is kicked in a World Cup that some say has lost its heart, a group of Scottish patriots with hearts of gold at a party in Boston will have raised over £500k to help people back home who need a wee hand up. Scotland’s chances of winning the World Cup might be slim. And I don't know much about football. But what I do know is that our wee nation will show the world football does have a heart and it's cloaked in a tartan scarf. Enjoy the video.

They invest money they might never see again, work evenings and weekends, launch products and leave secure jobs. They take a leap of faith that would make most people feel slightly sick. Then someone offers them a microphone, a stage, a networking event, a panel discussion or the chance to pitch their business... ...and they say no. What the hell? You've already done the scary bit. You started the business. Talking about it isn't showing off or being pushy. It's not being full of yourself, it's letting people know you exist. You might have noticed that I talk about my businesses a lot. That's entirely deliberate, I don't want to be a well-kept secret. I want to be the name that springs to mind when someone needs an unforgettable team-building experience, a fundraiser with impact, or a wild swimmer looking for a better way to carry their kit. Visibility matters. People can't buy from you, recommend you or champion you if they don't know what you do. That's exactly why I'm delivering an Arrow Break at this month's She Scales event at RBS. We're going to get out of our own heads, challenge some of the stories that keep us small, and remember that fear is just an emotion, not a decision-making strategy. Gill Baird, MBA liked thisGill Baird, MBA liked thisWhat does success mean in defining moments? Is it really impossible to dare to elevate those moments that truly matter, or not? Think of this one outside the box if you can. Most leaders believe they are raising the bar by pushing for higher performance. They set bigger targets, demand faster results, and expect more output with fewer resources. However, they often overlook an essential aspect: raising the bar is not just about what you ask of people, but also about how you make them feel while delivering it. Consider a recent video in which a man uniquely proposed to his partner. Instead of simply handing over a ring in a restaurant, he facilitated the training with the bird and crew to create an unforgettable moment. This act raised the bar on thoughtfulness, effort, and personal care. In contrast, many leaders provide generic praise in team meetings, sending the same "great job" message they used last quarter. They treat recognition as a transaction rather than a meaningful moment. The uncomfortable truth is that when leaders focus just on results while keeping recognition basic, people comply but do not commit. They complete their tasks but do not feel seen, leading them to seek opportunities elsewhere. Leaders who truly stand out do something different. They make recognition personal, putting real thought into how they show appreciation. They understand that loyalty is earned through moments, not metrics. Reflect on your team: are you only raising the bar on performance, or are you also elevating how valued and seen people feel while they perform? My dissertation focussed on Change Management and Revolution of Service Sector firms and included in depth interviews with 5 of Scotland's top Entrepreneurs - Mr Jim McColl OBE, Mr Charan Gill MBE, Mr Ivor Sigmund Tiefenbrun MBE, Mr John McGlynn and Mrs Colette Grant. With unpresedented access during…By securing the only full MBA Scholarship in the UK, i was able to complete my MBA at Stirling University, under the direction of the previous Director of the Strathclyde MBA, Mr George Burt.
