"Can you make this blog more... engaging?" This feedback haunts most content writers. What clients think "engaging" means: → Add more emojis → Write like a social media influencer → Make everything "fun and casual" What engaging actually means: → Hook readers with their exact problem in the first line → Use specific examples they can relate to → Structure content so it's easy to scan → End with actionable next steps Example of boring vs engaging: Boring opening: "Customer retention is important for SaaS businesses. Here are some strategies..." Engaging opening: "Your trial users signed up 14 days ago. Today, 87% of them will never log in again." Same topic. Completely different impact. The real secret to engaging content: Write for ONE specific person, not "everyone who might be interested." That SaaS founder losing trial users? They stop scrolling. That random reader browsing LinkedIn? They keep moving. Your content should make the right people think: "This person gets exactly what I'm going through." Engaging isn't about writing style. It's about writing relevance. 📌 Need blogs that actually keep readers reading? Let's talk →

How to *still* go viral on LinkedIn (the secret sauce that got me 3.4M impressions in the last 12 months): I'm hearing it every day in my community: "For those who still get traction on LinkedIn, what's working?" "If you're engagement hasn't gone in the toilet.... how??!?!" I could give you my gut reaction, but that might not be helpful. My opinion of what works for me might not work for you. So instead I analyzed my posts from the last 12 months, but not (just) for impressions. For comments. Conversation creates connection. And that's what we need as marketers. If you’re struggling to make your content pop, you’re probably missing at least one of these. 1. Conversational, relatable tone Write like you're talking to a friend over drinks. My friend Justin calls my tone "the parent at the bar." People engage with real voices, not corporate speak. 2. Bold, opinionated stance Take a stand. Don’t hedge. I call out bad marketing tactics (looking at you, “engagement ransom”) because we crave someone who’s willing to say what they’re really thinking. 3. Vulnerability and personal experience People don’t want to just hear about your wins. They want to know when you almost burned out, when you second-guessed yourself, when you were wrong. 4. Name the problem (Content IP) Ya know I had to remind you, but Content IP works. Give a problem a catchy name that sticks in people’s heads: - Checkbox marketing - Content Cold War - Engagement ransom When you name the problem, people finally have words for their frustrations. It hits harder than just selling a solution. 5. Clever, subtle humor I've never once in my life been called subtle, but the goal is the smirk. If it makes people smirk, you’re doing it right. 6. Audience-centric approach It’s not about you. It’s about what they’re struggling with. Use the “Yeah, me too” effect to make them feel seen and heard. 7. Scannable and structured format Short paragraphs. Bullet points. Plenty of white space. My god I'm doing it right now aren't I.... People skim before they read. Make it easy for them. 8. Challenge the status quo Don't just regurgitate advice. Question it. Challenge common practices and call out when things are done wrong. It's provocative... it gets the people going. 9. Tactics & Philosophy Give em something to chew on. Share actionable strategies but also make them think. The combo of practical + reflective keeps your content from feeling stale. 10. Curiosity levers everywhere - Ask questions - Start stories but leave them unfinished - Be unexpected - Imply that you have information that they don’t - Imply that THEY have information that they’ve just forgotten Going viral isn’t about ghostwritten CEO hot takes. Or a “comment ‘viral’ and I’ll send it to you” gimmick. If your content is noise, people will keep scrolling. If it makes them think, they’ll stick around.

How to make content people don’t just consume—create content people save. Here are the keys to making saveworthy posts. 👇 Most people scroll past 95% of content. But they save the 5% that makes a real impact. Here’s how to create that 5%. Tactical Advice > Inspiration Motivation is nice. But practical, actionable tips? That’s what people save. → Break complex ideas into simple, easy-to-follow steps. Provide a framework or checklist that your audience can implement immediately. 💡 Example: Instead of saying, “Consistency is key to growth,” share: “Here’s a 3-step process to post consistently without burnout.” → Data-Backed Insights Generic advice gets scrolled past. But people stop when they see evidence. Use statistics, case studies, or personal examples to back up your claims. Show proof that your method works. 💡 Example: “90% of LinkedIn posts don’t generate engagement. Here’s the data-backed strategy I used to go from 0 to 500 comments per post in 60 days.” → Unique Perspectives Hot takes are a dime a dozen. But a fresh, contrarian view? That’s gold. Challenge conventional wisdom with a new perspective. Show why your approach is different. 💡 Example: I nstead of “work harder,” try: “Stop working harder. Here’s why rest might be your biggest productivity hack.” → High-Value Resources People save resources they can revisit. Offer free tools, templates, or guides that solve a specific problem. Create a downloadable checklist, guide, or infographic. 💡 Example: “Struggling to write engaging hooks? Here are 5 high-converting LinkedIn hooks you can use today (link to download).” → Simplified Complex Ideas Distilling complex ideas into simple language is a superpower. Take a difficult concept and break it down into 3 digestible steps. Simplify industry jargon into everyday language. 💡 Example: “Here’s how AI works in content creation, explained in under 30 seconds.” Takeaway: Saveworthy content = actionable, easy-to-follow, unique, and valuable. Make your posts something people don’t just scroll past—make them something people save and come back to. What’s the last post you saved? 👇 Let’s build a resource thread!

B2B tech companies are addicted to getting you to subscribe to their corporate echo chamber newsletter graveyard, where they dump their latest self-love notes. It's a cesspool of "Look at us!" and "We're pleased to announce..." drivel that suffocates originality and murders interest. Each link, each event recap and each funding announcement is another shovel of dirt on the grave of what could have been engaging content. UNSUBSCRIBE What if, instead of serving up the same old reheated corporate leftovers, your content could slap your audience awake? Ego-stroking company updates are out. 1. The pain point deep dive: Start by mining the deepest anxieties, challenges and questions your audience faces. Use forums, social media, customer feedback and even direct interviews to uncover the raw nerve you're going to press. 2. The unconventional wisdom: Challenge the status quo of your industry. If everyone's zigging, you zag. This could mean debunking widely held beliefs, proposing counterintuitive strategies or sharing insights that only insiders know but don't talk about. Be the mythbuster of your domain. 3. The narrative hook: Every piece of content should tell a story, and every story needs a hook that grabs from the first sentence. Use vivid imagery, compelling questions or startling statements to make it impossible to scroll past. Your opening should be a rabbit hole inviting Alice to jump in. 4. The value payload: This is the core of your content. Each piece should deliver actionable insights, deep dives or transformative information. Give your audience something so valuable that they can't help but use, save and share it. Think tutorials, step-by-step guides or even entertaining content that delivers laughs or awe alongside insight. 5. The personal touch: Inject your personality or brand's voice into every piece. Share personal anecdotes, failures and successes. 6. The engagement spark: End with a call to action that encourages interaction. Ask a provocative question, encourage them to share their own stories or challenge them to apply what they've learned and share the results. Engagement breeds community, and community amplifies your reach. 7. The multi-platform siege: Repurpose your anchor content across platforms. Turn blog posts into podcast episodes, summaries into tweets or LinkedIn posts and key insights into Instagram stories. Each piece of content should work as a squad, covering different fronts but pushing the same message. Without impressive anchor content, you won't have anything worth a lick in your newsletter. 8. The audience dialogue: Engage directly with your audience's feedback. Respond to comments, ask for their input on future topics and even involve them in content creation through surveys or co-creation opportunities. Make your content worth spreading, and watch as your audience does the heavy lifting for you. And please stop with the corporate navel-gazing. #newsletters #b2btech #ThatAshleyAmber

Boring content doesn’t build brands. So why are we still making it? Things are changing at a speed we never thought possible, and it's getting scary, especially if you're into marketing. A few years ago, simply providing valuable information was enough. There was less competition, audiences had more patience to consume detailed content, and social media wasn’t as saturated with endless options fighting for attention. But today? The way audiences consume content has evolved. They still seek information, but they also expect it to be engaging, easy to digest, and even fun. 🔴 The challenge? We’re competing not just with other brands but with everything else fighting for attention—trending reels, viral tweets, and endless scrolls of content. So what happens if we don’t adapt? 😕 Engagement drops → Purely educational content without an engaging hook gets overlooked. 😖 Brand recall weakens → People remember stories, humor, and emotions—not just facts. 😑 Reach shrinks → Algorithms prioritize engaging content, and if yours doesn’t hook people, it won’t be seen. The solution? Edutainment. Instead of choosing between educational and entertaining content, combine the two. Here’s how: ✅ Traditional educational content: Blog posts, case studies, reports, how-to guides. ✅ Entertainment-based content: Interactive quizzes, polls, short-form videos, memes, storytelling posts. ✅ Hybrid (Edutainment) content: Infotainment-style videos, gamified learning, storytelling-based lessons, social media threads with humor. Why does this work? Because people crave dopamine, not just data. → A well-told story makes an audience listen. → A fun quiz makes them engage. → A short, entertaining video makes them stay. If you make your audience enjoy learning, they’ll keep coming back. Remember, your audience doesn’t owe you their attention. You need to earn it. Thoughts?

Embarking on the content creation journey can feel like navigating a maze. Over the years, I’ve discovered that the secret to making meaningful connections through content isn’t just about what you say, but how you say it and ensuring it genuinely resonates with your audience. 1. Embrace Simplicity: When I first started posting, I thought using big words and complex sentences would impress my readers. It didn’t. Feedback showed they preferred straightforward, easy-to-understand content. It was a lightbulb moment—simplicity wins. Now, I always ask, “Would my grandma get this?” before I publish anything. 2. Deep Dive into Your Audience’s World: After sending out a simple poll to my followers asking what topics they were interested in, the engagement on my subsequent posts soared. Knowing your audience is like having a roadmap for your content journey. 3. Storytelling is Your Best Friend: Sharing a personal experience while sharing my journey, complete with all the missteps and eventual triumphs, garnered more responses and shares than any how-to guide I’d ever written. Stories not only make it relatable but also create emotional connections, making your message more impactful and memorable. 4. Consistency is More Than Just Timing: I once experimented by posting daily for a month and then sporadically the next. The drop in engagement during the sporadic month was stark. Regular, predictable content keeps people coming back. But consistency isn’t just about schedule—it’s about maintaining a consistent voice and quality that your audience can rely on. 5. Break the Monotony with Visuals: Visuals can turn complex information into an engaging, digestible format, making your content more accessible and enjoyable. 6. Feedback: Early on, I viewed feedback as a personal critique, but I’ve learned to see it as a gift. Positive comments highlight what’s working, while constructive criticism offers a blueprint for improvement. Engaging with feedback has turned my audience into co-creators of my content.

Writing is at the heart of digital marketing, yet so many marketers overlook why certain content works. Effective writing isn’t about clever phrasing—it’s about shaping behavior, inspiring action, and guiding people through a logical journey. Audience-first approach: Don’t write for search engines—write for the human being. Understand their pain points, goals, and motivations. Structure matters: Organize content so it’s easy to scan, with headings, bullets, and clear takeaways. Storytelling: Facts inform, stories resonate. Show a scenario your audience can relate to—this is what makes content memorable. Clarity over cleverness: Being witty is great, but clarity wins every time. Make sure the reader can understand your message immediately. Iterate and test: Headlines, calls to action, and messaging should be tested. Small tweaks can have a huge impact on engagement and conversion. Writing skills aren’t limited to blog posts—they apply to social media, emails, ads, and even presentations. Strong writing is a strategic advantage. When you focus on the audience’s needs and use language that connects, you can turn ordinary content into a conversion machine. Always test your messaging, iterate, and refine—your best insights come from observing real responses.

Did you know emotional engagement can boost learning retention by as much as 30%? When learners are emotionally connected to the material, they’re more likely to pay attention, absorb information, and retain it over time. Emotional connections spark curiosity, motivation, and personal relevance—three essential ingredients for effective learning. So, how can we design emotionally engaging learning experiences? Here are a few strategies: ✨ Storytelling: Stories captivate us. Craft narratives that resonate with your audience and relate to the subject matter. For example, sharing a real-world success story can inspire learners to see the material as personally meaningful. ✨ Relatable Scenarios: Put learners in situations they recognize. Scenarios reflecting their day-to-day challenges can help them connect deeply and see the direct application of what they’re learning. ✨ Visual and Emotional Design: Use imagery, colors, and tone that evoke the desired feelings. Whether it’s hope, excitement, or determination, visuals can amplify the emotional impact of your lessons. ✨ Interactive Activities: Let learners immerse themselves in role-playing, simulations, or decision-making exercises. These approaches make content more relatable and memorable. ✨ Empathy-Driven Content: Show that you understand the learner’s perspective. Acknowledging their challenges and aspirations builds trust and emotional resonance. Emotionally engaging learning isn’t just “nice to have”—it’s a game-changer. As Clive Shepherd says: “The number one factor in engagement is relevance because relevance drives out resistance.” When learners see how training connects to their goals and daily challenges, they stop resisting and start participating. Relevance makes the difference between “I have to do this” and “I want to learn this.” It’s not just about delivering information. It’s about showing learners why it matters to them. For example, imagine a sales training course. Instead of generic lessons on communication skills, the course includes real-world examples of successful sales calls, step-by-step breakdowns of effective closing techniques, and simulations where learners negotiate with virtual clients - all while showcasing the value of these skills in increasing sales. By focusing on scenarios they’ll encounter on the job and the ROI of the skills, the training resonates with learners and keeps them engaged. Want to make your training highly relevant? Here’s how! ⬇️ 👉 Tailor your content. Customize examples, scenarios, and case studies to fit your learners’ specific roles and industries. 👉 Start with a “why”. Clearly explain how the training will help learners meet their goals or solve real problems. 👉 Use real-world applications. Incorporate practical exercises and tasks that learners can immediately apply to their jobs. 👉 Gather input from learners. Before developing the training, ask learners what challenges they face and what skills they want to improve. 👉 Update content regularly. Ensure your training reflects current trends, tools, and challenges in your learners’ fields. How do you ensure your content connects with learners?
