Paul Pierroz shared thisBuilding pipelines, mines, and LNG facilities — demands real commitment, substantial capital, and long-term certainty. Producers and operators can handle legitimate objections, environmental concerns, and unique project requirements. What they cannot is a government that lacks the will to see projects through — or worse, one that layers regulatory obstacles, delays, and political uncertainty. When investors and developers sense that hesitation at the federal level nothing gets done. Canada has lived this. While we wavered, the US got it done. Companies like Cheniere Energy developed world-scale LNG export terminals on the Gulf Coast. I remember visiting their display at the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston, showcasing their program at a time when Canada still had multiple LNG projects on the books — most of which never made it. When we pushed for pipelines routed through British Columbia, leveraging the best available Canadian technology, the federal government often declined to engage. In some cases, senior officials wouldn’t even stop by industry booths-walked right by or took a different route. The lack of interest sent the message: Canada was not open for resource business. We know the result. If we truly want companies and project champions back, which I do, we must change the script. I don’t need an expensive study or focus group to see what’s happening in many workplaces, and to many employees. Poor leadership is not only the main reason why people leave their jobs and organization - it can and over time likely will manifest as illness in some of their reports. Some advice to leaders to curb this trend and maintain a healthy and productive team - Show up and work harder than the people you manage. Take your role seriously or move to an individual contributor role. Establish and communicate team values and standards. Meet the standards you set. Set a plan with clear priorities, and focus on results. Everyone should know how they, and each of their team members play a role in delivering results. Manage resources and be aware of the type and quantity of projects/tasks owned by your each team member. Get involved and find a solution when someone is overwhelmed. Celebrate results, communicate wins, and learn together from failures or missed opportunities. These moments can bring the team and its spirit to a new level. Know your team members so you can effectively understand, monitor and react to their individual needs. Build quality trust and rapport. A healthy workplace is a leader’s responsibility and the rewards to team members, the people in their lives, the organization, and stakeholders are many. Please comment…

Many operators have US and Mexican footprint. 2 critical minerals and uranium - promote supply of uranium and copper etc to facilitate energy buildout and power US AI strategy. 3 nuclear breakthrough - promote CANDU and Small Reactor experience/human capital and technology to promote US AI strategy and power requirements. 4 logistics - promote rail, trucking, and shipping presence required to move resources across NA. Many railroaders have US footprint. 5 project development - promote ability to get projects done and reignite relationships with domestic and international partners related to 1-4, improve Canada’s ability to compete with and out deal US in key areas. 6 capital - highlight % of domestic pension funds invested in Canada and be transparent with the Canadian people. Invest at home and in Canadians with our own dollars vs China etc… Sum 🆙 Canada must get on war room level commercial footing in 2025 with the same vigor we have applied to our social initiatives.

Paul Pierroz liked thisPaul Pierroz liked thisIn a recent The Hub Canada commentary, Jack Mintz, President’s Fellow of the School of Public Policy at the University of Calgary, writes how the recent West Coast pipline agreement between Ottawa, Alberta, and British Columbia raise significant concerns about potential revenue-sharing arrangements that may set a troubling precedent for interprovincial trade. The Canada-British Columbia Cooperative Prosperity Agreement allows B.C. to levy royalties on the pipeline operator, which. he argues, is akin to extortion and could lead to increased trade barriers across provinces. Mintz emphasizes the need for fair treatment of interprovincial infrastructure and warns against the implications of allowing provinces to impose discriminatory fees on resources from other provinces. Many organizations don't suffer from a lack of good people—they suffer from unclear decision ownership. Amy Kates introduces a simple but powerful idea: Design the conversation before making the decision. Rather than asking "Who is right?", ask: ✔ Who should be involved? ✔ What data should be discussed? ✔ Where will conflicts arise? ✔ Who has the final accountability if agreement isn't reached? This concept of the Golden Vote ensures collaboration without creating endless debates. Everyone contributes, but one accountable role ultimately owns the quality of the decision. The course also reinforced that effective organizational design begins with asking the right questions about strategy, capabilities, structure, processes, talent, and collaboration—not by rushing to reorganize. Clear roles create clear decisions. Clear decisions create organizational agility. Geared toward change management practitioners and change professionals, this initiative creates spaces for learning, connecting, and growing in a psychologically safe and supportive environment. This is a chance for real talk grounded in the realities of change work across the public service. As the public service continues to navigate complex, simultaneous waves of transformation, the need for collective learning and shared insight has never been more essential. At this launch session, you will learn about the three components of the member care pillar: 1) Show and Share: change practitioners, academics, and thought leaders will guide participants through a tour of tools and approaches and answer questions. Some tools will be available for use by community members via the IOCN Compendium of Tools. **NOTE** During this inaugural meeting IOCN community colleagues Thao Sohn and Leeanne A. from Statistics Canada will share their tools and walk us through how they were conceived, built, and applied in live organizational contexts. They will also share emerging insights from this fieldwork. 2) IOCN Change Management Learning Path: validated by IOCN members in 2024, the learning path workbook is now in a pilot stage for use and under continued evolution to align more closely with the Leading Change Framework developed by the Change Directors Network. The learning path elaborates on technical change activities required for all change scenarios, shares a growing spectrum of change complexity, and offers context of types of changes encountered in public service. 3) Lean Coffee: a methodology introduced by Jason Little at a former IOCN event. This is an “unconference approach” using a conversation-style that fosters open, practitioner-driven exploration of challenges and ideas. Together, these elements aim to strengthen our community of practice, deepen our collective capacity, and celebrate the contributions of colleagues shaping change from within the system.
