Our Advocacy Journey Continues Following the National Advocacy and Child Protection Workshop, SOS Children's Villages in Ghana, together with our civil society partners, engaged the Head of the Office of the Local Government Service, Prof. Lord Mensah, to advance the implementation of the workshop's six priority child protection reform recommendations. The engagement yielded encouraging commitments. Prof. Mensah pledged to champion the call for sustainable financing for child protection, including dedicated budgetary allocations at the national level and increased investment through the District Assemblies Common Fund. He also committed to driving key reforms within the Local Government Service, including exploring the integration of child protection as a performance indicator for Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) and supporting efforts towards the passage of the Social Workers Bill. These commitments mark another important milestone in our collective efforts to move #BeyondPolicy by translating advocacy into concrete actions that strengthen Ghana's child protection system. We remain committed to ensuring that every child grows up safe, protected and cared for.

Strengthening the Social Enterprise Ecosystem in Ghana As part of ongoing efforts to promote inclusive economic opportunities and sustainable livelihoods for young people in Ghana, the EU-Ghana Youth Empowerment Programme: Spark Change-makers Project convened a strategic policy dialogue bringing together key stakeholders from government, civil society, and the social enterprise ecosystem. Representatives from SOS Children's Villages in Ghana, Social Innovation Africa, and Social Enterprise Ghana engaged with Mr. Noah Tumfo, Chief Director at the Ministry of trade agribusiness and Industry, and his team to advance dialogue on the recognition, development, and support of social enterprises in Ghana. The engagement represented a significant milestone towards strengthening the enabling environment for social enterprises, with stakeholders reaching consensus to establish a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to facilitate coordinated action and sector development. Through this collaboration, key priorities will be advanced, including: Promoting the adoption of a Social Enterprise Policy for Ghana Strengthening capacity-building opportunities for social enterprises Expanding access to markets and economic opportunities Supporting the implementation of agribusiness sector reforms Promoting inclusive production models through women-led cooperatives Contributing to the creation of decent work opportunities and sustainable livelihoods This milestone highlights the importance of multi-stakeholder partnerships in shaping policies and systems that enable social enterprises to contribute to economic growth, innovation, job creation, and community development. Through strategic collaboration and collective action, the programme continues to create pathways for youth empowerment, inclusive economic growth, and sustainable social impact in Ghana. Advancing the Conversation on Social Enterprise Development in Ghana As part of the EU-Ghana Youth Empowerment Programme: Spark Changemakers Project, our implementing partner, Social Innovation Africa, led a courtesy visit to the Ministry of trade agribusiness and Industry to strengthen advocacy efforts towards the passage of Ghana’s Social Enterprise Policy. The engagement provided an important opportunity to rekindle discussions on the legal recognition of social enterprises and the creation of an enabling environment for young people to develop sustainable ventures that can thrive beyond donor support. The positive reception and constructive dialogue signal a promising foundation for the national advocacy campaign scheduled for July, as stakeholders continue to work together to unlock opportunities for youth-led innovation, entrepreneurship, and inclusive economic growth. Today, we concluded our two-day workshop on "Strengthening Community Child Protection Systems for Effective Case Management, Coordination, and Sustainable Reintegration" with a strong focus on turning knowledge into action. Community Child Protection Committee (CCPC) members enhanced their knowledge and practical skills in accessing government support schemes, improving case reporting and accountability, and developing practical community action plans to better protect children and respond to child protection concerns. Day 2 sessions focused on: Accessing government and community support systems for child protection initiatives. Strengthening tracking, documentation, and reporting of child abuse cases using simple monitoring and accountability tools. Developing community advocacy and action plans ahead of the 16 Days of Activism campaign' As participants return to their communities, they do so with practical tools, stronger partnerships, and renewed commitment to safeguarding the rights and well-being of every child. We acknowledge the generous funding support of the Government of Norway through Norad - Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation and the continued support of SOS-barnebyer Norge (SOS Barnbyar), whose contributions are helping to strengthen community child protection systems and improve outcomes for children and families in vulnerable situations. Today marked the successful start of our two-day workshop on "Strengthening Community Child Protection Systems for Effective Case Management, Coordination, and Sustainable Reintegration." Community Child Protection Committee (CCPC) members and key stakeholders came together to strengthen their knowledge and skills in identifying child protection concerns, understanding referral pathways, and promoting effective case management practices. Day 1 featured insightful sessions on: ✅ Identifying cases of child labour, trafficking, and child abuse ✅ Understanding child protection laws and policies, including the Child and Family Welfare Policy and the Human Trafficking Act ✅ Enhancing collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development to support rehabilitation and sustainable reintegration of vulnerable children The workshop also provided an important platform for dialogue and partnership among community actors, government representatives, and child protection practitioners, reinforcing our collective commitment to creating safer environments where every child can thrive. This workshop forms part of SOS Children's Villages Ghana's "Protecting Children at Risk of Losing Parental Care" project, which aims to strengthen community-based child protection systems and improve outcomes for vulnerable children and families.
