𝑊𝑒 𝑤𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑛𝑜𝑡 𝑠𝑒𝑙𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑒𝑑 𝑎𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑤𝑖𝑛𝑛𝑒𝑟. I am sharing this because I think founders who only post wins are not being honest about what building something hard actually looks like. Spent 3 minutes on stage to make the case that clinical research funding is a capital problem. The judges heard the pitch. The room was full. The problem is real regardless of who took home the prize. BioCrowd is building the infrastructure that connects those 2 realities. Milestone-based funding, automated through smart contracts, linking DAF capital & venture philanthropy to universities and hospitals doing research that deserves to reach patients. 𝐖𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐢𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐀𝐒𝐃𝐀𝐐 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐋𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. This is our 3nd startup competition final. We won the Miami PwC Pitch Competition in December. & were the finalists at the CancerXannouncement at JP Morgan Conference, SF in January. We will keep pitching until the infrastructure exists. This is not a funding gap. This is the failure of the capital markets. Here is the case I made on stage: $326 billion sits in Donor-Advised Funds in the US. The large majority of it is held, not granted. We are not asking donors to give more. We are giving them a better way to deploy what they have already set aside. A 2% reallocation is $6.52 billion back into research. BioCrowd is building that infrastructure. Milestone-based funding, automated through smart contracts, connecting universities and hospitals doing extraordinary science to capital that is sitting idle.
