Our Senior Leaders Council (SLC) has done a tremendous job in steering Team Philippines, enabling us to bring our mission to life: “Decisions made easier, Lives made better.” I am grateful that in the past week, I had the chance to reconnect with them during our offsite activity in Bohol, where we delved into how we can be Better as a leadership team. Together, we strengthened connections, fostered greater collaboration, and got equally empowered and inspired to cultivate Psychological Safety within our teams. The offsite activity surely reinvigorated everyone on the team to continue learning, growing, and striving to become the best leaders we can be. Since then, the question I’ve been asked most often is: “So… how’s retirement?” My answer has always been the same. I didn’t retire from work. I retired from working for just one company. Looking back over 41 years, I realize my career was never defined by a single industry. It took me from telecommunications to regional leadership across Southeast Asia, from systems integration to digital infrastructure, data centers, IT, IoT, and building new businesses. The industries changed. The mission never did. Build businesses. Build teams. Build leaders. Build opportunities. That mission didn’t end when I left corporate life—it simply entered a new chapter. Over the past year, I’ve had the privilege of co-founding Olympian ICT Solutions Inc. Watching an idea become a fully operational company serving customers has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. Becoming an entrepreneur has also changed my perspective. As an executive, I was accountable for results. As an owner, I’m accountable for everything. Every investment is personal. Every hiring decision affects someone’s livelihood. Every customer relationship must be earned. Every peso spent must create value. Building a business has given me a deeper appreciation for entrepreneurs who make those decisions every day. Ironically, it has also deepened my appreciation for my years at Converge. The opportunities I was given, the people I worked alongside, and the trust placed in me became the foundation for everything I’m building today. I’m equally grateful that my relationship with Converge continues through consulting engagements. I appreciate the continued trust and friendship of Dennis Anthony Uy and the leadership team. One realization has stood out above all others: Experience doesn’t retire. Technology evolves. Markets change. Business models come and go. But leadership, execution, sound judgment, and the ability to build organizations that create lasting value never go out of style. Today, I divide my time between growing Olympian, exploring new ventures, developing our family farm, and working alongside business owners and leadership teams to improve execution, solve operational challenges, and accelerate growth. One lesson I’ve carried throughout my career is this: Success isn’t measured by how indispensable you become to one organization. It’s measured by how much value you’re able to create wherever you’re needed. If the first chapter of my career was about helping build companies from within, this chapter is about building businesses of my own while helping others build theirs. If this past year has reinforced one belief, it’s that experience creates its greatest value when it’s shared. Whether through entrepreneurship, consulting, mentoring, or simply exchanging ideas, I’m always happy to connect with people who are passionate about building great businesses.
