Kannur: Koothuparamba police on Wednesday arrested a 36-year-old man in connection with irregularities made during Kerala Government Certificate in Engineering (KGCE) examination held at Govt Polytechnic college, Mattannur, on July 1. The arrested person, S Janardana of Sadangaya Nouse, Kurudapadavi in Kasaragod, is a temporary employee at office of KSEB Vorkady section.
Investigation team led by Koothuparamba ACP Sibi Tom suspected that a large racket was behind the fraud. Police found that Vadakara native
Suresh Babu who was a teacher of a private coaching centre helped the accused get answers through mobile phone inside the exam hall. Police also launched a search for him who went absconding following police probe.
According to police, many candidates had attended the training class conducted by Babu. He created a secret WhatsApp group of his students through which the participants received correct answers while attending the exam. There were around 23 members in the group, informed police.
Meanwhile, the authority has decided to cancel the examination.
