RAIPUR: Four men were arrested for allegedly gang-raping a woman in Chhattisgarh's Surajpur district after dragging her to a field while her husband, who was with her but too intoxicated to help and had passed out. The incident took place on the night of June 27 in the Ramanujnagar region. The couple was returning to their village after visiting a local market when the husband fell asleep on the roadside under the influence of alcohol. Police said the woman's husband had consumed kosna, a locally brewed rice liquor at a local market, when the accused approached the woman and dragged her to nearby forest and gang-raped her.The accused also allegedly threatened the couple with dire consequences if they reported the crime.The survivor approached police two days later after being encouraged by local residents to lodge a complaint.Police arrested all four accused — Ritu Yadav (30), Ramji (25), Kapil and Rameshwar — and booked them under BNS. They have been remanded to judicial custody.Surajpur SDOP Abhishek Paikra said the accused have criminal antecedents and the investigation is underway.
