Mark Williams shared this𝗧𝘄𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘆 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗴𝗼 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗺𝘆 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗲𝗻𝗻𝘆 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘀. 𝗦𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝟰𝟮 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗹𝗱. Penny developed MS at the age of 18 – just as her adult life was taking off. She'd just gone off to college and the main picture in this post was taken in the bedroom of her first term lodgings. By her early thirties, she had become almost completely disabled and lived with severe disability for around the last decade of her life. She died in 2006. That's the story in a nutshell, but, please, no need for sympathy as this post is really focused on something else... In contemplating this 20 year anniversary of Penny’s death, I found myself pondering a difficult question. “𝙒𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙮 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙙𝙞𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙞𝙛 𝙨𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙙𝙞𝙖𝙜𝙣𝙤𝙨𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤𝙙𝙖𝙮?” The answer, according to current evidence, is quite possibly, yes. When my sister became ill in the early 1980s, there were no disease-modifying treatments to slow the progression of MS. Care focused largely on managing symptoms because there was little that could be done to alter the course of the disease itself. Today, the picture is very different. Neurologists can diagnose MS much earlier using MRI, monitor disease activity closely, and offer highly effective treatments that can dramatically reduce relapses and slow disability progression. Many people diagnosed today remain mobile, independent, and in work for decades. Life expectancy has also improved significantly for many people with MS. Of course, not every case responds to treatment, and aggressive MS still exists. But someone with the same diagnosis today would have access to therapies and specialist care that simply didn't exist for my sister. That is a remarkable example of what sustained medical research can achieve. It's also a reminder that the job isn't finished. Thousands of people in the UK are still diagnosed with MS every year. There is still no cure, and many continue to live with fatigue, pain, cognitive difficulties, and progressive disability. That's why organisations such as the MS Society and other MS charities remain so important. They fund research, support people living with MS, train healthcare professionals, and work towards a future where stories like my sister's become increasingly rare. If you're able to support their work, whether by donating, fundraising, or simply raising awareness, you'll be helping to improve the lives of people living with MS today and contributing to the search for tomorrow's treatments. My sister never had the opportunities that people diagnosed today now have. But I am grateful that progress has been made, and hopeful that continued research will mean even better outcomes for future generations.

Very pleased to add my voice to the congratulations to our GARAGE team who opened at Manchester Arndale on Friday last week. What a team and what a brand, continuing to grow rapidly in the UK! I'm biased I know, but businesses that "go for it" during the retail renaissance will be the ones that win - and this one is going for it! The symmetry part? We traded this unit up until the beginning of 2026 with a Fanatics pop up store (which was successful in itself!) before shuttering the doors, merging with the next door unit and a few months later opening this space again with GARAGE. If THAT doesn't describe what Agile Retail does, being behind the brands you know, nothing will! Store 13 / 22 for this year! 💪

That's exactly what we did on Friday. 💜🧡 It was so lovely catching up with Kirsten Goddard from ALLpaQ Packaging Limited and Kerry Swift - Specialist Recruiter from Beam Recruit over lunch at our favourite, Tai Pan. 🐲🍜🍚 As if lunch wasn't enough, Kirsten surprised Kerry and me with the most beautiful flowers from Fishlocks Flowers. Such a kind and thoughtful gesture that immediately put a smile on our faces. 💐🌸😍 With full trust (or blind faith! 😂), Kerry and Kirsten let me take charge of the ordering in Cantonese. The result? A feast of authentic Chinese dishes that went down a treat! 😋 Our paths first crossed towards the end of 2023 when Kerry introduced me to Kirsten Goddard and Phill Allen at ALLpaQ Packaging Limited. That introduction led to me supporting ALLpaQ as their Marketing Director after conducting an initial strategic audit and review of their marketing operations, and what started as a professional relationship has grown into a genuine friendship. For almost three hours we barely came up for air, chatting about family, business, house moves, kitchen renovations, art, dance raves we'd love to go to, and everything in between. We laughed... a lot. 😂 Afternoons like these are a great reminder that while business may bring people together, it's the people you meet along the way who make the journey so rewarding. A special thank you to Kerry, for treating us to lunch (completely unexpected!), and Kirsten, for the gorgeous flowers. As an England rugby player, I often found inspiration beyond my own sport, and Kevin was one of those people. Not just because of what he achieved, but because of how he carried himself—with humility, passion and infectious enthusiasm. One quote of his has always stayed with me: "I was the mongrel who made it to Crufts, and that was fine by me." I love that. It perfectly captures the modesty, self-awareness and determination that made him so special. Kevin proved that talent shines brightest when it's matched with heart, resilience and humility. He was an icon of football, but more importantly, an icon of sport and a gentleman who inspired generations across every game. Rest in peace, Kevin. Thank you for the memories and the inspiration. But it was the moment I knew. He is employee number 1. Our founding engineer. 10 years inside an MSP came before it. 1st line, 3rd line, project engineer, technical account manager. You name it, he had done it. Then 5 years as a software engineer. So by the time we spoke, he had lived every side of the MSP world and knew how to build. There was no mission to sell him. 12 months ago he joined and built the Assurix platform from nothing. It pulls live evidence from 30+ of the tools MSPs already run. So a buyer sees they are secure and operationally mature, not just hears it. Proof does not build itself. Someone who has lived the problem has to wire it together. We took him to Relais de l'Entrecôte to mark the year. One dish, no menu, no decision to make. Fitting, for a man who made his in a single sentence. Adam, year 1 down. Thank you 🙏

Mark Williams liked thisI’m all for being competitive. The desire to win matters. Working hard, pushing yourself and doing everything you can to succeed are qualities we should encourage. But when competitiveness crosses the line into intimidation and bullying, it is never acceptable. After the way Argentina conducted themselves during this World Cup, I chose not to watch yesterday’s final out of principle. For me, it had become about more than football. I was grateful that, in the end, justice was done. Spain’s 1–0 victory felt like a reminder that success does not have to come at the expense of respect. Had Argentina gone on to lift the trophy after behaving in that manner, what message would that have sent? Billions of people watch the World Cup, including children like my son. Whether they choose to be or not, players and teams are role models. Winning the biggest prize in football through intimidation and bullying would not have been a positive lesson for anyone. Winning matters. But how you win matters even more. In sport, business, leadership and life, ambition should never be used as an excuse for bullying. You can be driven, competitive and determined while still treating others with respect, kindness and compassion. Mark Williams reacted on thisMark Williams reacted on thisI have just learned the news that Kevin Keegan has passed away. I am still trying to process it. Like so many of my generation, Kevin was my childhood hero. He inspired me to dream of playing professional football and he showed me what passion, commitment and humility looked like. I was fortunate enough to meet him on three occasions, each one leaving a lasting impression. ⚽ At 12 years old, I met him when he opened a new sports shop in Runcorn. I still treasure his autograph today. ⚽ I had the privilege of sitting with him over breakfast during a summer football tournament while representing Merseyside Schools U19s. Even then, he was generous with his time and made a young footballer feel valued. ⚽ Many years later, our paths crossed again at a CompTIA event in 2022, where this photograph was taken. Some people inspire us through what they achieve. Others inspire us through how they make us feel. Kevin did both. Thank you for the memories. Rest in peace.

As scary as some of the conversations I’ve overheard and talks I’ve sat in on have been, I know the position I’m in is a privilege. So two years ago, I started putting money aside every single month solely for cyber investment. Never dipped into it. Never used it to plug a shortfall. Safeguarded against spending. Because cyber is not something you set and forget. It needs eyeballs. It needs someone taking it seriously. And you need the cash there when investment is needed… or you are exposed to risk. That is why CE Plus is a minimum standard in my business every year. I also hold the suppliers in my stack to the same standard. If they cannot demonstrate that commitment, they do not get engaged with. I even removed a payment platform when I started this journey because it had no security credentials. (That was a tasty conversation.💡) My clients need me to be a secure part of their supply chain. My team and their families rely on this business. And my family needs my contribution too. Cyber is not an afterthought in my business. It is a priority. An investment. A responsibility.
