Bill Solano liked thisBill Solano liked thisMy oldest got married about four weeks ago. It was one of those weekends that makes you pause, look around, and realize just how quickly life moves. Watching him begin this new chapter had me reflecting on something people often ask me about my own 29-year marriage: "What makes a marriage work?" Ironically, it's not that different from what makes a business work. Whether you're choosing a spouse, a business partner, or building a team, it starts with character. You have to know who they are, share similar values and remain committed to being on the same team.. The strongest marriages and the strongest businesses aren't built on perfect circumstances. They're built on trust, honesty, mutual respect and the willingness to keep showing up for one another when things get hard. Over the years, I've learned that talent can open doors, but character is what sustains relationships. And relationships are what sustain everything else. It's not always easy, but having a great partner makes all the difference when hardships come in life and in business. Congratulations to Taylor Bell and his beautiful bride, Abigail. I'm so thankful you both found a great partner in each other. Hold onto that, hold onto each other, hold onto your faith, and the traits of good character: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self control; and you guys will thrive. ❤️ Join me in wishing them a huge congratulations!

I’m leaving these first couple of days with a full heart, a full notebook, and a renewed sense of responsibility for how we grow and lead the people around us. One quote from John Maxwell that I keep coming back to is this: “The difference between a career and a calling: if your world is the same size after your calling as it was before, it’s not a calling.” That one really stayed with me. A few other notes I’m taking with me: - Leaders see more than others do, see it quicker, and see it fuller. Influence doesn’t filter up. - Mass movements don’t begin with the masses. They begin with a few true believers. - Everyone wants to be on a winning team, but not everyone is willing to do the work winning requires. And then, as if the leadership sessions weren’t enough, we ended day one with a private concert from CeCe Winans. Her voice is truly a gift. What a special moment. I also want to recognize the strong teams I’ve had the privilege to build and work alongside—they have been a meaningful part of this journey. Bill Solano liked thisBill Solano liked thisThink back to when you were in college. For some of us, it was a lot longer ago than we care to admit ;-). Think about the professor who changed the course of your future—the one who taught you how to fix a run-on sentence and structure a beautifully composed essay, the one who finally helped Algebra make sense, or the one who believed in you and even fought for you so your efforts were recognized beyond a technical grade on paper. For me, all of those memories came rushing back as I stood on stage at my alma mater, University of West Georgia, and accepted the Alumni of the Year Award from the Department of Communication, Film, and Media. Thank you to Bradford L. Yates for nominating me for such a prestigious honor. After graduation, I went on to become a QVC Program Host and, ultimately, a successful business owner and entrepreneur—all thanks to the foundation I received from the University of West Georgia. That is where I grew up. It is where I learned public speaking, the business of being on-camera talent, and that leadership is more than a title—it is something earned. The best part of the night was sharing it with my sister, Chanda Bell, who was also honored as Alumni of the Year by the School of Education. I am so proud of all we have accomplished together. I always joke that I’m just grateful UWG let me in… 😂 but in all seriousness, I don’t take this lightly. So much of who I am and what we’ve been able to build started right there. West Georgia gave me the foundation, the confidence, and the courage to chase something bigger. A big congratulations to my fellow award winners. Go West!
