Because we always started with the wrong question: "How do we store and move data efficiently?" The right question is: "What revenue moat does this data create — and can an agent act on it today?" In 2026, your primary consumer is no longer a human analyst. It's an agent. And that changes everything about how you design the platform. 👇

Casey Camarco liked thisCasey Camarco liked thisFor most of my career, work meant doing. Lately it's starting to mean orchestrating — and I think that's where all of this is headed. It makes me think of the deists 300+ years ago and their image of a clockmaker: you wind the clocks, then you let them run. This is the last post in my series on how revenue leaders actually use AI. Levels 1–4 were things I do today. Level 5 is the horizon — grounded in what's real, but dreaming a little about where it goes. Here's the shift I feel coming. Work is splitting into distinct phases. There's live, in-the-moment work — being with people, building trust, deciding together — and if anything, that gets more human and more valuable. Then there's task work, and that's what's starting to split in two: staging and releasing. Staging is deep, focused work — winding the clocks. Defining intent, sequencing the pieces, setting things up right. Releasing is letting them run while I step away and go do the human work. Then I come back to results, not raw material. It's a new evolution of time management: less "what's on my calendar," more "what have I set in motion." And the part that genuinely feels like the future — the clocks are starting to talk to each other. A colleague and I each have a second brain, and they've begun comparing notes and handing off context. Tiny today. But it's the seed of organizational knowledge that compounds instead of walking out the door. I don't want to oversell it. The open questions are real: trust, verification — did the clocks actually run right? — and the new deficiencies we could introduce from extreme context switching. We'll have to learn behaviors we don't have yet. Here's the hard part: this only pays off if you're willing to reshuffle. Layering AI onto the way you already work gets you single-digit gains. Breaking your work apart into jobs-to-be-done and rebuilding around them — that's the real unlock. The human role isn't shrinking. It's moving up. From doer, to clockmaker. Five posts ago, this was a chatbot that summarized articles. Now I'm winding clocks and letting them run. At Arctic Wolf we're training all of our GTM Leaders on this coming Monday on how to go on this evolution as a revenue leader. Then, on a Sunday night, 3 days before we were supposed to ring the bell on Wall Street, I got a call: "You know that trip to New York? You don't need to take it." That Friday night, Cisco had reached out about acquiring us, and they came to terms over the weekend. It was so abrupt, and it all happened so fast. I was blindsided. Then I saw Cisco's number, and I understood: $3.7 billion. Much higher than our IPO price. Although I 100% believe we would have gotten to that number on our own eventually, it would have taken a lot of effort. So it was a good outcome. But it didn't change my perspective on company building at all. Because even though I put in a ton of work into AppDynamics' IPO, I never thought about the end game in my day-to-day job. I always thought about solving customer problems. Today, I'm still driven by the opportunity to build cool stuff and work with people toward common goals. And that's what I'm doing at Spacelift. That motivated us to build differently from other trackers. Ashley’s story shows that this work is paying off. Real-time location tracking, Reserve Mode, the Pet Finder Network, the app-controlled Tile light—they all contributed to Ashley reuniting with her pets. As a pet parent with our share of close calls, I never want to need any of these features, but I love knowing that they're in my pocket if the need arises, and I'm delighted that they were there for Ashley when she needed them most. This is why we took the time to design for the real world and not just settle for a dot on a map. Most of the conversation centered around the founders & engineers heading to Google. I knew the bigger story was about those of us who stayed... I’ve always believed engineering builds incredible products, but GTM is what turns them into category defining companies. It’s the bridge between great technology and customer impact. Scott Wu & Russell Kaplan understood that. They invested in the people who brought transformative technology to the world’s largest enterprises. One year later, watching Devin’s massive growth and adoption has only reinforced that belief. And yes, operating with a massive chip on your shoulder is effective. Winning is the best revenge. Happy one-year anniversary to everyone who believed. The best is still ahead.
