Curry Smith shared thisLast Wednesday was a BRAND NEW ... or rather... a NEW BRAND day at ASWB - Association of Social Work Boards! During our quarterly staff meeting, we discussed the significance of our association's new look and feel. Beyond a new logo and an updated color scheme, we're revising our approach to providing support, resources, and information to an array of groups within the social work profession. Through a process spanning most of 2025, we worked with Grafik to solicit input from the regulatory community across the U.S. and Canada, staff members in every department, licensure candidates, and practicing social workers. This included roundtable discussions, in-depth stakeholder interviews, and a short survey that received responses from more than 10,000 members of the profession. Curry Smith posted thisToday marks three years with ASWB - Association of Social Work Boards. It would be impossible to list everything I've learned about social work, professional regulation, licensure, high-stakes exams, and practice analyses. It may be even more impossible to list everything I've yet to learn. Among the highlights of these past three years... + I've met hundreds of social work regulators from across Canada and the U.S. + I've led the campaign for the 2024 Social Work Census, receiving input from nearly 85,000 individuals with more than 25,000 of those folks completing the practice analysis. (Through this process, I also *ahem* learned what a practice analysis is!) + I've written, reviewed, and reformatted letterhead for more legislative testimonies than I care to count. + I've promoted the Social Work Licensure Compact, now active in 30 states, allowing for multistate practice and license portability across state lines. And next week, I'll be overseeing the launch of ASWB's rebrand which is one small part of our preparations for the new licensing exams coming in August. More to come. More to learn.

Curry Smith shared thisEarlier this year, ASWB - Association of Social Work Boards -- along with other members of the Social Work Workforce Coalition -- conducted a profession-wide study of who today's social workers are and what they are doing in their practice. One way ASWB encouraged participation was committing to make donations to nonprofits as directed by survey respondents. Today, we announced nearly $24,000 in charitable donations to a group of 13 nonprofit organizations identified by Coalition members. Excited about the data derived from the workforce study. And equally as excited about the philanthropic impact connected to this undertaking.Curry Smith shared thisThe Social Work Census gave participants an option to direct a $1 donation to nonprofits aligned with social work values. Curry Smith shared thisOn March 1, to kick off #SocialWorkMonth, ASWB - Association of Social Work Boards joined 12 other leading social work organizations to launch the #SocialWorkCensus. The Census is the first-of-its-kind profession-wide workforce study aimed at better understanding who social workers are, what they do, and the many ways in which these professionals practice. To convey to our staff the importance of this historic undertaking, I had the absolute pleasure of dusting off my MC skills -- and dressing the part -- to share the results of a much, much smaller staff survey we'd conducted in hopes of illustrating the (sometimes surprising) results you can find when polling an audience you might think you already know. It's been a wonderful experience becoming a member of such a caring and hard-working team, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to learn from and work alongside everyone at ASWB and the professionals we serve. For me, looking back on more than a quarter century as a licensed social worker, I pause to honor the many clients, students, colleagues, and collaborators who have contributed to my professional “wisdom bowl.” Along with every social worker, anyone who has worked alongside social workers, and every person who has benefited from the practice of this profession — I celebrate #SWMonth2023. As CEO of ASWB - Association of Social Work Boards, I believe that regulation, along with the education and practice sectors, we all have the potential to transform social work’s future. As part of that future, professional social work licensing serves as a powerful force for social justice.

I have so much more I want to do in life, but if I were hit by the tank tomorrow (a bus would not kill me) then my legacy feels secure. This is the best feedback I've ever gotten. My daughter Alice filled this out. She knows my favorite thing in the world is to spend time with my daughters, to play with them and make them laugh. To know, at least up to this point, that I have been a good Daddy means more than anything else. You often hear, "show me your calendar and bank statements and I'll know what you value in life." This feels like that multiplied by 1,000. It also points back to the paradox in all of this. Money doesn't matter one bit compared to being a good Dad or the other real important stuff in life. Except money affects all that important stuff, so it is important.

Somehow our oldest son is about to be a 7th grader, our “puppy” Onyx is suddenly 2, and here I am already marking one year at Nestlé USA. A year ago, I needed help finding the coffee mugs in our Arlington office. Today, I walk in and quickly secure my nitro cold brew over ice, ready to tackle the day. When I joined Nestlé, I knew I was stepping into a company with strong brands, talented people, and global reach. What’s become even clearer over the past year is how deeply my colleagues live our purpose through their passion, their care for consumers and customers, and the way they show up for each other. You don’t find that everywhere. It’s fast-paced—and as a former newsroom guy, that’s saying something. We move at the speed of the consumer, and I’ve had the privilege of seeing up close how it all comes to life. From our test kitchens—where inspiration becomes innovation—to our factories, store shelves, and eventually into millions of homes, including my own. This past year has been about the people behind it all, walking those factory floors, celebrating wins big and small, and partnering across Corporate Affairs with people who believe in, challenge, and support one another every day. What’s been especially meaningful is seeing Nestlé not just through the lens of the work, but through my family. I still remember pulling into my driveway at the end of the day during my first month at Nestlé, being greeted by our two youngest boys holding a warm slice of DiGiorno pizza. “Try it, Daddy! It’s sooo good!” My wife and boys experience our brands as consumers—DiGiorno pizza nights, Ciao! in the fridge, Starbucks cold brew and Nespresso to keep us moving (“us” being the parents; the kids don’t need any more fuel), and of course Nesquik. Watching them enjoy what our teams create is special, and I’m reminded that behind every product is a team of people who care deeply about getting it right. And while I’m proud of what our team has accomplished, it also feels like we’re just getting started. That’s what time warps do. Year 2 is full of opportunity—and I continue to pinch myself that I’ve landed in the right place, at the right time, with the right people. To everyone who’s been part of this journey—thank you. #WeMakeNestlé
